what's the difference between that and being able to order games the same way?
Well, the first thing is that you'd have to establish and account with SR, so that you can order games as an when necessary. Depending on your credit status, you'd either have a limit on your spending (say £300), and pay back by some form of Standing Order or Credit Card at the end of the month, or alternatively you could have an account where you pay upfront, say a lump some of £300 and when you've spent that you can top it up again as an when you have the ready cash.
To order all you'd have to do is punch in the number on your mobile, dial up, get a menu listing consoles/pc's, select the category you wish, select the game, and hit 'enter' or the equivalent. It would arrive the next day.
The same with their stores, each item on the 'shelf' could have a phone number on it that you just dial up to buy it using your mobile, and then that's it, you've bought it, some kind of locking mechanism would release and you can just pick it up and walk out of the shop without having to see a counter assistant.
SR could be innovators and trial this in maybe one main store, having a 'Pay by WAP' area set aside for those that wish to try this out. If it's a success they could then roll it out nationwide.
Handy, I would have thought, for those times when you're in a shop and there's a couple of games you'd really like but are just a couple of quid short...
There's a really good joke in there somewhere. I'll be damned if I can find it.
If only for the fact that I can barely work my phone as it is. I'm always trying to phone mates late at night to be rude to them, only to find a confused and eventually hostile stranger explaining how to perform various acts upon myself.
The last thing I want to do is to try and speak to my guitarist, only to find 28 copies of Barbie Riding School arriving at my house a week later.
I don't get this WAP technology, surely there's a point (say...being outside) when using the Net is either impractical or unhealthy?
Same with mobiles as normal, I can't believe some people they're so important that they must be contacted every second of the day.
I can't remember the last time I had a call during the day, simply because I'm at work or out with my mates anyway.
Keep the net for home usage of chatting here, downloading patches and surfing for porn (oh yeah like I'm the only one).
