Well I've been through the first area and come away with my hat and some nice artifacts. :-)
I'm in Prague now and happily beating up Nazi's and throwing them off ledges. :-)
Damn this game is good, me thinks I'll be playing this a shedload over the week. ;-)) On severe gaming overload at the moment after my spending spree on Friday. Anyway, if you haven't bought this game yet - buy it now !

Collecting them all opens up a gallery area. No Tomb Raider moment will beat grabbing a Nazi by the top of his trousers and the back of his neck and throwing him off a balcony screaming to his death. ;-)
There are artifacts to collect, but they are secret objects to find and its entirely optional to collect them if you want. I think they were thrown in to encouage a bit of replay value.
No idea. I don't even think it's about artefacts.

I was a very big fan of Tomb Raider 2 + 3 but after that the game really did take a nose dive into the realms of what you would expect from a second rate title. Tomb Raider Cronicles really did kill off my admiration for the series and unless Eidos have reverted back to the classic original Tomb Raider games I can't see me picking it up for the PS2 when I get one in the summer. The game will sell very well because of peoples expectations however whether or not the gameplay can match the hype is something I won't comment on until I have had first hand experience of the game. It looks like it may have rekindled the joys of Tomb Raider 2 and if this is the case I will be very anxious to get my hands on a PS2 controller and a copy of the new game.
