I have just been thinking about the ultimate football game. It would be called 'Footballer'. You have just one player to control and that would be yourself. You have the choice of a career mode in which you start at the bottom and work your way to the top, or just pick any club at random and start from there. But choose a top team straight away will put you into reserve matches to prove your worth. When matches are played the computer will be in control of your team mates and the opposition, and you control only yourself. So in order to get noticed from the bigger clubs you will have to play well in mostly every game. You have a choice of being a satisfied footballer, playing with no attitude or demands, or you can be a player in it just for the money. As you start from the lower divisions, constantly playing well will attract big clubs and they will ask after you. You may choose a transfer and all decisions will be yours such as a big money move and asking for high wages. You will be in charge of everything from refusing to play if your stuck on the bench, to going AWOL. Normal rules will apply bookings and sendings off will land you suspensions and bad tackles could land you a fine. The control system would be quite straight forward, pressing certain buttons for tackles, passes, shots and by using a voice simulator you may call for the ball from team mates. You also have ear phones so you can experience the atmosphere of the crowd and make out players calling for the ball, and even your manager giving you tactics. The camera will always be focused on your player, so you will have to make appropriate decisions in order not to lose your position (well timed runs into the box,etc..) Contracts will be a major factor in this game. There will be available clauses to choose (e.g Leave club if relegated, talk to bigger clubs if they come in for you). Training modes will also be important for fitness and morality. You will have to gain repect from other team members and frequant bad games and a string of bad results will turn your home fans against you (booing your every touch). The artificial intelligence of this game will be so life like, say like Man Utd move in for a five million pound deal, would you get the chance to make an appearance for them with at least four or five other top players taking up your position? Where a move to say Leicester or West Ham will see that you get regular first team football. Play well enough then your national team may call you up (you can choose your nationality). Foreign teams may eventually ask after you. Every single feature in the beautiful game will be accounted for (Being cup tied, transfer deadlines, F.A probes, bungs, etc..etc..)The games themselves will be played ISS Pro Evolution style. Every club and every ground (from Premier to Div 3) in the country will be included. With some Non league teams thrown in for good measure (if you have a lot of time and want to start from the very bottom then choose one of these teams). This game would be available for the power of Playstation 2 ( It would sell like hot cakes), and would be made by Konami (who would gain the right to use real player names/stadiums).

Features :
-Career mode (starting from youth teams optional) spanding over 20 years.
-Proper contracts, wages, FA disiplinary, etc...
-All English teams involved (real names/stadiums).
-Add on discs including all leagues across Europe (Original game required).
-High computer Artificial Inteligence.
-Real life crowd reactions.
-Injuries (gotta be careful with those high tackles) which can see you out of action for some time.
-Unique voice simulator to call your team mates.
-Ear phones for real stadium atmosphere, and listening out for palyers passing and tactics.

This would be the ultimate game of football, fit for any generation.

The Dreamcast is crying out for an excellent football game. Sega have some outstanding sports titles such as NBA2K, NHL2K and the forthcoming Virtua Tennis, but to add a decent footy game is a must. Lets just hope that it will be 'the best football game ever' its what Dreamcast owners deserve.

You know one of the reasons that Sega is doing so well in America is because there are so many good sports games- NFL, NBA, NHL and now the baseball game. Sega Europe have finally realised this, and, due to their poor football games, have decided to make "the best football game ever". To do this they've asked people loads of questions about the features it should have and stuff like that. The game is currently under development in Japan, and hopefully it'll be better than Sega's last attempts.

This would be a great addition to the game. Say like you rise through the ranks to become a top superstar, companies could approach you for boot deals and model agents come in for you to advertise their products. Doing adverts for shampoos, sports deodorants and even burger companies. Then you can licence your own range of merchandise and collect stupid money on the way. Who knows you may eventually end up as a pop star or a hollywood actor!!!

a good foot ball game would be where you team starts off in division 3 and with your skill you have to get them at the top of the table and increase your way through the tables until you complete the premieership.

once you have completed the premier ship, then you should be able to play foreign teams.

this game should be like this and not a football game like fifa 99 where you can play any team you want because people get bored quickly.

Atleast with my idea it would keep you playing because nothing would be the same.

In this game each player could be proached by various companys wanting them to wear there boots and companies could fight to get there logo's on you shirts

The highrst bid rules

Nice idea, but in a football match you don't really see enough of the action to account for standing around on the half way line for three quaters of an hour, and nobody likes a pure ball chaser. To be honest, I get bored in a 2 player sim sometimes when I'm always on the end of the next pass from a human ball hogging team mate.

It might work with something like basketball, if you weren't benched too much. Of course, if it was like being virtually ANY english player in the cheesey league (dairylea), getting about 5 minutes of court time a season wouldn't be the most rivetting game either.

Well, I think that's a great idea for a game. However, given that you came up with the idea on our Discussion forums I reckon you should give all the staff here at Special Reserve a free copy!!

Sounds good. Timing runs to stay onside etc. You could be like Le Tissier, avoid the ball for 89 minutes then grab it in defence beat 5 mean and stick the ball in the top corner from 20 yrds. Or you could be a real thug throwing elbows, stamping on players. Playing in goal would throw up a whole bunch of alternatives. If you were playing in defence and went on a run forward, lost the ball and your team conceded a goal you'd get shouted at by the manager, maybe even substituted.

If you develop it I'll buy it (but not for the Playstation 2 I don't intend to get one, or know anybody that is planning to)
