I'm a self-confessed Beckham hater. Or rather I was.

Since he became England captain, my opinion has changed; he's been excellent for England, leading by example, and giving absolutely everything in every game. Which is why I'm surprised that he's been practically non-existent in United's last few games.

Let's hope he's saving it for the World Cup!

I think that the world cup draw is a perfect chance for the British media to get behind the English and Irish teams. England face a very difficlt group, but on their day, England can beat the best in the world.

The press always have gripes with specific players in the England squad, whether or not the entire team are playing well.

Take France '98: When Beckham got sent off, the press crucified him, instead of trying to support him. He may of been responsible for England's exit in the world cup, but being realistic, did we really ever stand a chance of winning it?

This world cup is still very difficult, but England stand a much better chance this time round, however after today's events, there will be many people writing off Englands chances. A lot can happen in 6 months

Although I think Ireland stand a better chance of qualifying than us!!

There again, Beckham in one of Englands best players...and on todays performance you woudnt think much of Englands chances.
