i think PS2 should have the usual 1Mb memory cards. the normal 8Mb ones are far to expensive at around 30 quid a piece. i know the games will take alot more space to save than PS1 games and i think that's the reason but couldn't they make it more like a 3Mb or 5Mg memory card so that they are a little more affordable!
what do u think?

See this thread for a 'detailed analysis' of the price of PS2 memory cards...

(remove the space after 'uk')

Also, be aware that the 'usual 1Mb' memory cards of the PSone are not actually one megaBYTE but one megaBIT - or 128 kilobytes, divided into 15 slots of around 8.5 kilobytes each. You couldn't even save one PS2 game on that!

8mb is plenty of space so I would rather spend £25 on a 8mb than £15 on a 4mb. 8mb lasts a long time and you will only need to buy one. I have 13 game saves and still have 5227Kb left. So it will easily last me another year.

I agree they are pricey for what you actually get, considering that RAM dropped below the £1 per MB mark a long time ago.

But, what can you do? Unofficial peripherals are notorious for not being compatible with all games. It's an official Sony peripheral, and like most if not all Sony peripherals there seems to be some sort of price fixing cartel that is in effect.

Look around anywhere and you'll see most PS2 consoles being sold at Sony's RRP (£199). Then look at the games, shop around a bit, and you'll find differences of up to £20 from shop to shop depending on title.

The best thing to do is try to pick up 2nd hand 8MB official Sony cards and hope for the best. If they work and you've managed to get one for a tenner then you've got quite a bargain.
