I've noticed recently that quite a lot of people still refer to the PS2, GC and X-Box's as 'next-gen consoles'.

Despite that this is usually said by casual gamers, and given that they have all been released, even in Europe, for a respectable amount of time. We are, it seems, in that short lived time, where consoles have been, both, available long enough for developers and gamers to have a grip on their potential, what they can expect from a title today, and what enhancements to hope for in future releases, but not so long that their next gen console releases are any more than speculation of far distant developments.

This, it seems, should the golden age for PS2, GC and X-Box releases, gamers should be enjoying titles by developers comfortable now with their beasts of burden, whilst still enjoying the range of innovations and enhancements made possible by the superior hardware.

It seems this is where we should be, but are we really there?

Greater things can be achieved, but this remains to be the next generation of computer games. We can now play others worldwide on consoles, drool over the GBA SP and be bewildered by the quality of games nowadays.
