I am one of millions of people who love Final Fantasy and have played through all the PSone games right to their climatic finale. I really love the game, but especially for its gripping storyline and characters. It is usually due to this that I continue to play after becoming stuck or frustrated. However, with the move online, it is quite likely that storyline will take a blind step making way for more adventuring and hacking'n'slashing. Personally, I think this will tarnish Square's reputation for weaving beautiful stories, and is a step in the wrong direction. Come on square, keep the games as single player story-based games and not a multiplayer frantic level-building hack'n'slash attempt.

Exactly what I mean, Final Fantasy belongs to the single player story-driven genre, and not a multiplayer affair. Square have made a wrong move this time, perhaps the online shouldn't be Final Fantasy XI, but something like Final Fantasy Online, with it just being a spin-off rather than a full blown roman-numeralled sequel. Oh well, guess you can't win 'em all.

I've always thought that the FF series were no more than interactive stories anyway. An online game would fall flat on it's face.

Mind you, that's only speaking from little experience. Demos, in other words.

I wanna PS2.
