The reasons why Barthez is making mistakes:

Barthez to my knowledge, has not made any mistakes for France this season. This is because he feels confident behind the French defence. With players like Thuram, Desially covering he believes that he can keep a clean sheet every game.

Whereas when he is in a Utd shirt he does not feel as confident. Last season he did not make as many mistakes when Stam in the defence. Barthez felt confident with a quality defender in front of him.

Whereas, Barthez this season doesn't feel as confident with the defence infront of him. So when Barthez does something that he normally does on the training field, for example against Deportivo, running out he has the added pressure that his defence are not as good as last season and will not be able to cover for him, as Stam did!

Apparently, i read in the paper that Ferguson is willing to give Barthez one more chance in the champions league next week. I really hope Ferguson drops him if he makes any more mistakes.

Judging by the look on his face after the 2nd, I think he was cacking enough bricks to build a house. He gave a very worried look towards the bench.

Its just some sort of freak of nature type thing. Hopefully it will all balnce out and Barthez will make no mistakes from now till the end of the season!

But BArthez doesnt seem to be phased much be these mistakes. He was actually smiling after the first Henry goal. I dont think it actually hit home till the 2nd henry goal, what he had actually done.

Hopefully he'll play badly for France in the World Cup, but I doubt it.

I think he makes mistakes because he's French, and arrogant, and has already won the top prize, so is now just messing around.

Oooookaayyyyy...

But how does that explain his pass to Henry against Arsenal? Complete control of the ball, no pressure from any Arsenal player, and no involvement from the defenders.

It's my theory that he has suddenly noticed he bald, therefore he wanders about the penalty box looking for his hair, and the football is a secondary concern. That or Alex isn't paying him enough. He doesn't want to have to save up. He wants an island now.

Definately. Bosnich was and is an excellent keeper. Very solid, and a good big game player. Away at Real Madrid he single-handedly kept the score at 0-0. And against Palmeiras in the Incontinental Cup in Tokyo - I listened to that on the radio, and his saves won the game.

Fergie does seem to make mistakes with goalies - apart from the Great Dane that is.

I agree, on all counts.

Last season Wes Brown was playing brilliantly, but he tailed off towards the end of the season, and now he's gone to pot.

Barthez is under too much pressure, and he can't handle it.
I think though, that fergie knew he'd made a mistake not too long after he bought him. Why else would he snap up Roy Caroll?

The second worst mistake of fergie's career was getting rid of Bosnich. He is undeniably playing the best in the premiership this season, and he played extreemely well for us when we had him. Unfortunately, it seemed the gaffer had already decided he was only a 'stop gap' keeper.

If we'd kept him, we'd have had a solid keeper, and could've worked on the defence the last couple of seasons, which is what we really needed to do.

That could be something to do with it. There is no doubt that selling Stam was one of the biggest mistakes of Fergie's career. Also, Wes Brown seems to get worse with every game he plays. He's just not aggressive enough.
