"FXXk: Why Edge swears by Microsoft's new console".
Opening the reviews page it's easy to see why. From memory, the last game the magazine awarded the covetted 10/10 score was Zelda. Now Halo has been given that honour. Oddworld scored 7/10 (above average; good but not excellent), and Amped (snowboarding) got 8/10 (very, very good). Project Gotham- MSR sequal- got 8/10
For a release to have a 10/10 as well as a couple of other great games is something special indeed...
Even as an avid supporter of the Xbox, not even I could have imagined such a great response to the console...
So, now you've heard the verdict: Thoughts?
-Is it too expensive for the masses?
-Will people see through the "I hate MS" ideal?
-Will the advertising shift more xbox's than GCs?

Had the GC and xbox come out at xmas, then people would want to buy a cheap and cheerful console... so the GC would have done far better.
Putting both consoles on sale AFTER xmas, whene people are reluctant to buy games or anything else (after spending for xmas) means only the more serious gamers will buy the consoles.
And I, personally, think that the Xbox will sell more because of the PS2 style games... Ninty still have the kiddie-like image about them, and this will be hightened by Ninty showing pictures of Luigi- nice character... when adults gamers (after all, not many kids will have the money to buy a console after xmas)... when they were in the early 90s!

I love pluggin the Gamecube....
I won't be getting an X-Box because of one reason... The Price.... it may sound stupid, But I have a PS2 which i'll have to support, and i'll be getting a Gamecube with 3 games, two memory cards and 4 pads (incl box pad) at launch...
Gaming costs too much! :D
Oh, and as for David Cronnenburg... the man is a legend!

>Anyone seen the cover of EDGE mag this month.
Nope, not yet.
>Is it too expensive for the masses?
Nope, should be priced around the same as the PS2 when it was launched, and that sold well. Expect a price drop sooner after launch than the PS2 because of the Gamecube being in the marketplace. XBox has to overcome 2 consoles rather than have the market to itself for 12 months and then tackle the arrival of just one console, which was PS2's situation in a nutshell.
> Will people see through the "I hate MS" ideal?
Yes, the mass market will fall prey to the fact that everytime Microsoft mention the word XBox they don't actually mention the word Microsoft in the same breath anymore. The "I hate MS" crowd will stop being so prejudiced when they realise that they've actually forgotten why they hate MS in the first place.
>Will the advertising shift more xbox's than GCs?
No idea. Looking at the Canadian TV adverts that XBox is using at present I'm surprised they sold any at all in North America. Very Cronenbergesque, not my style at all.
And I don't know what Nintendo's Gamecube advertising budget is. I'd say the one with the bigger advertising budget will shift more units this Crimbo.
