I have recently been playing a browser based game called Planetarion. Although it does not have any graphics, it is played in real time, and is very addictive. I know that many good video games are also addictive, but would these motivate you to get up at 3 o'clock in the morning just to improve your score? The fact is that these games give you a realistic chance to play dictator. In real life you would not see the units you control fight and destroy the enemy. So why should you in a game? It makes it more unrealistic and even on some occasions boring after short periods of time.
I admit, some browser based roll playing games are the extremes of boredom, but most take a very intelligent person to be able to play them effectively. I believe that these games can draw you to such lengths as you will break friendships or stay up all night due to the effective realism of the game, you actually start believing you are the person you are playing at being.
I would like to get feedback on what other people think and if you have any reccomendations of good strategy games on consoles or PC.

Heard of Arch mage thats suposed to a good game. IT's bout building a kingdom from nothing and vanishing your enemies. It's a lot like Age of Empires but not nearly as good. The thing that annoys me about age of empiresis that you can only have a fifty person population, but my mate says that you can debug it so you can have more. Dioes anyone know weather this is true.

And I appear to be quite good at it :)

Yeah I *played* that. Started in June, got bored by August, gave up in Spetember and haven't been back since. It gets so boring.

Yaeger was chatting to me on MSN a while back. Apparently, he still plays PA now. He even won some sort of national competition on it some time ago.

Darn good fun. Started playing it back at the end of October, when they started the new age, and it really is quite good. It's not as 'political' as planetarion, but it's bot-free as far as I can tell. It works slightly differently though... there's not much advantage to being online 24/7 as attacks are instant (takes x hours for your troops to get back though), but there's a lot of skill involved.

And I appear to be quite good at it :)

Still, did they really have to kill them? I mean, kick them off the server by all means... but wow.

If the same rule applied for Planetarion, Yaeger and Sniper would both be playing their harps by now. Or recorders.

They didn't get their money back either. Their argument fo r cheating went along the lines of:

"We're paying for this game, and it's not as good as we thought, and we can't be bothered to take all that time levelling up and searching for items because we've only paid for 3 months, so we're going to cheat and kill other players for their items, therefore having more fun that way."

Spot the flaw?
