After reading that I asked myself, how come game companies and refusing to make games for XBOX. I mean, I know how Rockstar games can't make games for XBOX, but other than that, I'm not aware of any other company with a contract that states they can't make games for XBOX.
No wonder alot of people are buying the PS2, it's because of the game selection. My friend bought a PS2 recentally, I asked him why he bought it when he already has an XBOX. He said that he's tired of waiting for games to come out on XBOX, when they already come out PS2 way earlier, or only on the PS2.
So, my question is, why do game companies usually make games for PS2 way earlier than they do on XBOX, or they don't even make one at all? I mean have you ever seen the difference in amount of games? Also, if you usually look at the flyers, like a store that sells electronic devices. In the game section, the PS2 column is always larger.
So, I leave you know. I have to go play Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance.

I wouldn't say that. It is really rather crap, though.

I'm sat here with Max Payne - for the X-Box - in my hands. Got the Rockstar logo on it. And isn't State of Emergency out on the X-Box either right now or very, very soon?
But in response to your question... developers bring games out for the PS2 first because it's actually the "weakest" (in terms of its' technical performance) of the three next-gen consoles currently on the market. Therefore, if they make a game for the PS2 - the "weakest" console - then they know that if they decide to port the game to the X-Box or Gamecube in the future, there will be no need for them to chop bits out of the game in order for it to work on the other consoles.
Buy X-Box and Gamecube, people... or I'll come to your house... and I will CUT you!!!
And Splinter Cell came out first on the Xbox. And Xbox does have quite a large number of exclusives - the SEGA exclusives for example [JSRF, Toejam & Earl, Crazy Taxi 3, Shenmue II, Panzer Dragoon Orta, House of the Dead 3, etc].
The PS2 tends to get more games developed for it simply because it's the biggest selling console at the moment. No mystery really.
