Rumours have abounded today across the web that Nintendo might attempt to leapfrog Microsoft and Sony and release the GameCube 2 before either the Xbox 2 or Playstation 3 are released.
It might just be worldwide waffle, but appears to have started in the Japanese business paper, Nikkei business daily, which appears to be quite well thought of.
Speculation suggests that 2005 could be the year to keep in your diary, with the big three all making tentative plans for release.
If GameCube is released first it could potentially turn the gaming market upside down if the gamble pays off. However, it’s a big gamble to take and knocked the wind out of Sega when the Dreamcast was launched early.
Gamers might well choose to wait until all three are released in order to get the best console available, particularly with the escalating costs and extra gizmos available as consoles get more complicated.
They know the score. Too early = Dreamcast-esque death. Too late = Struggle against PS(Insert number here).
