I've been using real instruments. I'm just working on stuff now that has been done in a normal studio..converted to WAV files.

Using Soundforge with various plugins to master the stuff for release. Its pretty cool albeit a tad technical.

I find that real instruments give a nicer sound and is more fun personally.

Quite like MJ Studio - basically just a mixer for MP3s for bedroom DJs who don't want to limit themselves to vinyl. In fact, the GUI is a set of decks and mixer and is used pretty much as you'd expect.

I've got eJay as well, I haven't used it much. There's just too many samples to listen to!

Also, I can't seem to get a clear idea of the sort of sound I actually want to get.

Bummer.

well, kind of..

As many of the regular guys and gals know, I have produced an album of FOG inspired music with the 'idiots' music program Dance Ejay 3. Far from being limited, it can produce some quality sounds and they just need to be stuck together in the right order.

Of course, some people still produce music that sounds like a strangled cat with this software, but I think my tunes have been given enough thumbs up to warrant a CD.

Oh, and it will have a clip from the audio book of the famous FOG western story too as a bonus!
