For years just had a PS, played games like GT and Driver 2 non stop with wheel, car seat and tv in right position(wore out many wheels and foot pedals!) Anyway looking at getting a Xbox or PS2, know pople who have both but only play car games with a pad, no good for me!
I prefer realistic games, even i just drive around for hours as in driver 2, not action get points and in race upgrades etc, although games like vice city look good. I know each person has a differant view on things but you get the gist of what im into, also F1 and Touring cars etc.
IS there any games for the X box that would suit me, even up and coming would be fine!
Finnaly if so, what wheel and pedals are good? strong and responsive, not toy like if you know what i mean.
Oh i have BY broadband, do i just need that £40 pack or other stuff?
thanks for any help
As for me, I don't like GT3. I bought a PS2 just for that game, and it was a let down, quite frankly.
It was just TOO realistic, it left the fun behind. I much prefer my Xbox and a copy of Project Gotham...
I found driver 2 on the PS great, good car mechanics too, not quite upto GT1 or 2, not played that since the mem card packed up and i lost all my many years worth of cars and data!!!!!
Yes i have Colin M's rallying, it did seem most of the new games had great gfx but not good car control, and many wheels i tried were toy like and a let down or wouldnt last a week....
Forgot to mention in car view was needed too, sometimes i got a game but it was like third person view.
Im from Sheffield not Notts.....but a owl not a blade!!!!! :-)
Project Gotham Racing is the only racing game that got me good. I love its style, and handleing(which is a mix between arcady and serious) and gameplay. Once you get some of the decent fast cars like Ferrais and stuff, I got enjoyment just playing the game and listening to my own music from the harddrive, (another nice feature).
No idea about wheels sorry. I'll look throuh my back issues of OXM and see what they think is a quality one.

It's not exactly what I would call a particularly good game. I got it a good while back and it's well strange.
You'll be racing along in real licensed cars, it feels just like a sim, and then all of a sudden a UFO will come down and start beaming up cows from the fields. I'm not joking here, it's damn silly.
I don't know whether it's supposed to be a sim or a comedy.
But I'll give it this, it offers a great amount of freedom on the tracks, you can go way out of the way and find other wacky things going on, good for a laugh maybe but that's all, won't last you very long.
PS2 + GT3 + Logitech Steering Wheel (sturdy wheel, strong pedals, great force-feedback).
There is NOTHING on any other system that even comes close to matching the pure driving experience. SEGA GT is simply another arcadey wannabe, sure TOCA may be a bit better looking on XBox, but it plays the same as on PS2. The only game I would get an XBox for (and did!) would be MotoGP, because that game is just so much better than Namco's efforts on PS2, and with MotoGP 2 on the horizon, it's a tough call if you like your 2-wheel racing.
Rallisport Challenge is OK on XBox, but there are much better rallying games on both XBox and PS2, and not much difference between them on the two systems (CMR3 for example). Project Gotham Racing is nice; different style of play and nice looking. Not worth basing a purchase decision on it alone though.
Trust me; I'm big-time into my racing games, and bought a PS2 well before plummeting for an XBox as well. With Gran Tursimo 4 coming out soon for PS2, with 100% Logitech wheel support, the choice should be an easy one.
Whatever you end up with, enjoy!
Fantastic racing game.
BTW, Jules, you from Nottingham by any chance?
