After 'Super Mario Bros' was not much of a success, and 'Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within' also flopped, nobody was expecting this.
Details have been leaked on 'Mario Kart: The Movie' which is said to be feature real actors and other characters will be computer animated.
The provisional cast is as follows:
Mario: Brendan Fraser. It was decided to go for a more 'action' star, so Bob Hoskins was not considered.
Luigi: Ben Stiller. This goofy freak will work well as Mario's cowardly brother.
Princess: Kylie Minogue. She's played a part in a video game movie before, Street Fighter, so knows how to get into character.
Toad: Computer animated. A dwarf in a costume may also be used for some parts of the filming.
Yoshi: Also computer animated, as no real dinosaurs were available.
Donkey Kong: Ving Rhames. He's big, and can do a convincing monkey.
Wario: Patrick Swayze. He really needs the money.
Bowser: Computer animated.
The story revolves around much more than the simple racing for cups format of the games, and involves an action packed adventure that's sure to be fun fo rall of the family.
Obviously Mario is the star of the film, and is something of a star in the American Karting circuit. He has heard, however, that the Japanese circuit is much togher, and he wishes to prove himself the best in the world by winning there, so he takes his brother Luigi along with him, as he's a talented mechanic. Luigi also offers much comic relief too, mostly slap-stick stuff.
Upon their arrival in Japan Mario meets Princess, and falls in love with her instantly. She leaves without leaving a number or anything, Mario's gutted.
Whilst Mario is flirting with Princess, Luigi encounters a strange dinosaur, Yoshi, and they become chummy, Yoshi tags along with Luigi for the rest of the movie.
Mario and Luigi (and Yoshi) go to register for the race. Toad is in charge of this.
Wario is the main threat in the first race to Mario. When the race starts Mario sees that Princess is also one of the racers.
The race is one of the most exciting parts of the movie, with Mario coming out as the eventual winner despite all sorts of trickery and cheating by Wario.
Bowser is up in the stands, and worried that Mario might bring an end to his undefeated record, given that he is the karting champion.
Mario and Princess meet again after the race, and are beginning to get really close.
Bowsers henchman, Donkey kong sees this and reports back to Boswer.
Bowser has Donkey Kong kidnap Princess, and let Mario know that if he beats Bowser in the race, Princess will die!
Mario warms up for the race, wanting to be the best, but not willing to take Princess' life to prove it so.
Luigi and Yoshi take matters into their own hands by setting out on a mission to save Princess.
The race begins, and Mario is resisting the urge to take out Bowser.
We go back to Luigi, and his progress on the Princess rescue.
We go between the two scenes, with Mario taking some punishment in the race from Boswer, bu tpowerless to stop it until we see Luigi defeating Donkey Kong and rescuing the Princess. He sends Mario a message, that Princess is safe.
Mario, now able to race to the best of his ability now tries to catch Bowser. A number if items from the game are used, and a last minute 'speed-mushroom' allows Mario to pip Bowser to the finish line.
The good guys win, and go celebrate.
Please remember that this is only the basic storyline, and it will be developed further to include bigger parts for the likes of Wario and Toad, given their popularity.
I for one am looking forward to this movie greatly.
What do you think about it. Will it be any good?

He is to play another member of the Mushroom kingdom, in a cameo role.
> I don't believe you...
Yeah, I am with Game here.. I think you aren't telling the whole truth!
Toad is played by Danny Devito.
As for the mario kart movie you read*, I reckon it needs to be filled out a little. Someone needs to die, for starters. Maybe luigi could get killed, to give mario the revenge motive as well? How about a cunning plot twist? Toad turns out to be on Bowser's side and sabbotages mario's kart, or leads luigi into a trap?
Good stuff, anyway

> I'm going to start queuing now. When's it out?
Apparently the 30/02/2003 is the date they want.
Then or never.
