I mean, look outside there's a football pitch, a shopping centre, even a club where your mates hang out, but what draws you to the N64 or Dreamcast (Or PlayStation 2 :D)... Maybe it's the interactive side of it, but then again, you interact with the football, the shops and even the girls at the club :D!
Maybe it's the sense of accomplishment... more so, I suppose, in adventure and RPG games than in anything else. In short, it's taken you about a week to accomplish something. But, again, you can win a football match, buy sales items at HMV or pull at the club.
To be honest, I can't put my finger on it. What is it about gaming that says "Woo! Look at me, the game-machine-thing! I'm cool!"
I suppose I could go on about the whole 'escapism' side of things, but I hate that word, so I won't. Instead I”Ēll talk about err... the unrealistic side of things.
People, nowadays, seem to want to be somewhere else... what, with all this talk of World War 3 and 'The Holy War' I don't blame them... but it isn't just that... children, aged just 5-6 have dreams of adventure islands, being a policeman, saving the princess and being James Bond.
I suppose gaming could be classed as a 'gateway to dreams', although a 'dream fulfiller' might be more accurate. It seems that for what ever you want out of life, there is an alternative in the gaming world. Want to be a DJ? Get MTV Music! Want to be a policeman? Get a Police 24/7 arcade machine! Want to be a criminal? Get GTA3! (Heaven help us when 'State of Emergency' comes out!) Maybe I”Ēve got the wrong idea, but for some people, like us, gaming could be a stepping-stone to what we want out of life.
So maybe gaming is so addictive because it fulfils dreams, makes the impossible, possible and turns sorrow, into hope....
Maybe...

See ing as i am buying my first ever Platformer ( see tagline) i amv wondering whether this will be addictive.
GTA3 is addictive already i cant see why i like running over triads and stopping my car over them when they aint dead and then setting the car alight.
Is it because games can let you do what you cant do in real life?
Definately some of the things i do in GTA3 would lock me away for ever
