After 23 years in the industry, Japanese company SNK are no more.
SNK are probably best known for King of Fighters (the game used for almost every Gamesmaster challenge finale), Metal Slug, the Neo Geo handheld and various other great games.
Ending it all was a sombre note posted on the home page of SNK's Japanese website which read: "It is with deepest grief that SNK will close the company history in its business. It was all of your favour and encouragement, which made our passion running to make better games for SNK fans. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank and every one of you for your continuous help and assistance rendered to SNK since its incorporation in Japan July in 1978. Without your support, SNK Corporation would not have been possible throughout 23 years of operation. With all our heart-felt gratitude, thank you once again!"
But all hope is not lost as SNK's licenses will be hot property with publishers scrambling to pick a few up. We're sure all your favourite SNK characters will still be around for years to come especially with the likes of Capcom releasing Capcom Vs SNK 2 on PlayStation 2 at the end of the month. We feel that this is almost ironic though, as it would appear that the Street Fighter guys of Capcom have beaten SNK's King of Fighters.
SNK you will be sorely missed.

I am surprised at this, I like many others have enjoyed the great fighters turned out by these guys rivalling capcom for ages.
Oh well lets hope capcom gets the licenses!
