I was walking alongside a group of kids on 'in-line' skates.
Approaching us was a number of kids on skateboards.
Then it happened, as it always bloody does.
My mind took over, reality was no longer important, this moment belonged entirely to my imagination.
From somewhere, nowhere, the sound of Nu-Metal could be heard, maybe Linkin Park, Papa Roach or Limp Bizkit, I really don't know, it only lasted whilst the two groups of kids were apart. As they got closer that music in my mind faded away to be replaced by something else.
A funky beat, and then the lyrics:
"They told him don't you ever come around here
Don't wanna see your face, you better disappear
The fire's in their eyes and their words are really clear
So beat it, just beat it."
That's right it was Michael Jackson's 'Beat It'. The kids were real close now.
And really staring at each other.
Now there were just as many skateboarders as there were in-line skaters, and I'm sure that wasn't the case outside of my imagination, but I do so enjoy these moments that I did have to just go with it. Also, though they weren't all wearing the same clothes, they were suddenly colour co-ordinated!
Anyway, they begun skating around each other, all moving in time, passing on the left, this went on for a short while, before they reached the 'stand-off' position. Or the stare-out, which ever name you prefer.
Then reality came along and hit me like a wet leather football smacking you in the face on a cold day, they'd passed each other without incident.
Oh well, the world according to Meka is a far more exciting world than this real one.
