That was a brilliant show!
It mixed people with virtual reality. a group of children had to give directions to another kid just like in a "point & click" adventure, making them pickup, drop, use, walk, jump and anything else they wanted they wanted that kid to do.
It had a storyline of which I can't properly remember, but it changed depending on how well the teams did.
There was a slight catch to being the kid in the game, you had to wear an oversized heavy Viking helmet, and you got frozen in time every week (well that last bit was just for effect).
The main aim of the game was to work as a team to solve puzzles which enabled the kid to go to the next room. However there were ghosts, giants, and other creatures (mostly sound effects and computer generated images) that could knock the players out of the fantasy realm and out of the game.
There were also characters played by actors who would either help, ask you for help, or trick you into losing.
This show was basically a large videogame. But with some human intelligence. It wasn't just about the intelligence of the players, but nearly always, the lack of it. Mostly to do with directions though. A lot of the time, the kids moved the opposite directions to what they were told to do. "Move left" was often acted upon by walking forward or turning right. And when the player with the helmet wasn't sure of anything, would he or she say anything? Nope! That player would just improvise leading to a stupid mistake in the gameplay that would usually result in a loss.
I was severely disappointed all those years ago when they cancelled Nightmare. I used to watch it every week, and when a series ended, I'd watch the other dribble they stuck on instead hoping they'd mention Nightmare. The last thing I remember about it is the hall of fame they had for winners.
Only one team ever made it in the last series!
I reckon that with the technology available now, that series could be ressurrected, and maybe a version where adults are involved (changing anything needed to match the size and intelligence differences).
i mean come on kids think the harry potter movie was scary
put a show called nightmare onto citv and todays generation will turn into the generation of bed wetters
kids these days are pansies
I remember there was a teletext version on channel 4 a long time ago during a school summer holiday.
