Just seen a pack in Argos (page 631) for ps2. Just wondering what the Optical cable is/does? Does it improve ya picture with games, like a scart??

The optical output/cable carries the signal for digital sound output for Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS Surround Sound, and can only be connected to hardware (amplifier/hi-fi etc.) which supports these.
It does not carry video signals, and has nothing to do with picture quality.

the optical cable is for digital sound ;-)
i think it has some thing to do with having to scarts at the same time or some thing
It can improve ur picture because it reduces noise (not the type u here) interference
