If you've not seen the relevant sr news article i suggest you take a look at it.

First thoughts - a flash back to a very bad film called 'demon seed', i think, where the idea of a futuristic prototype biocomputer had too much power, became self aware and tried to prevent itself being killed.
Not sure that'd actually happen though : ) but it is interesting to see rubbish old sci-fi ideas reflecting modern technology.
Still, i don't think we need to talk about that...

To me, if this could really be pulled off, it would be so revolutionary, even if it couldn't be mass produced it would still radically change the world. Following the development of early micro-machines strikingly similar to those injected into skinner (i think that was his name, i've not watched it in ages, since it became too complicated and reliant on remembering all the old stroylines to put everything in context) in the x-files.

But could it really be pulled off, and to what extent?
What are its potential applications?

Ideas, opinions?

actually sonic considering how our brain wroks (pulses and all), its not that far off how data would be sent throught circutry (god thats bad spelling, i cant be bothered), if you think about how we have emotion, its basically elecrtical pusles interacting with parts of our brain. you are very right in what your saying about the whole 1s and 0s (god how i hate binary and algorithmic computing concepts), but AI in computer games is usually done using decision trees (data type)......think of it as a flow diagram....ie if this happens check to see if this is possible--> no, then do option A, --> option A was blah% complete entity 3 has enetered area......etc.....its boring, but satisfying to do......byt he way that wasnt how they work, just rough example.....and if this isnt new to any of you then i do appologise for reapeating it...

I don't believe that AI, on current computers, is ever possible.

Reason?
All data has to be stored at 1's and 0's at a basic level. How on Earth can this be used to express emotion. Intelligence is not about doing actions as you are programmed- it is about FEELING that the action that you are doing is right.

As for futuristic "bio-computers", thes ewill take decades to get running on a usable level.
