Gone Away - Offspring
A Walk - Bad Religion
Longview - Green Day
Elevation - U2
Faceless Man - Creed
Incomplete - Bad Religion
Fell In Love With A Girl - White Strips (the current one)
Hells Bells - AC/DC
I Wanna Rock - Twisted Sister
Think - Aretha Franklin
With some of these I can undestand why I was addicted - The amazing guitar playing of Angus Young in Hells Bells, the brilliant kick-in in Faceless Man, Aretha Franklins amazing voice in Think and the catchy bass line of Longview - But I cannot find a reason why I Wanna Rock, for example, had me captivated for so long. Maybe it was its simplicity and purness/purity (i dunno!) - absolute basic Rock and Roll. Maybe all these songs just struck a chord in me because of the way I felt at the time - I may have been slightly down when I was caught on Elevation, or peeved about something when I first heard A Walk.
Tell me what songs you've been addicted to, the ones which you couldnt get throught the day without listening to at leas 20 times, and why you think they got you hooked.
Same reasons as Goatyboy. It rocks.
"Sinnerman" - Nina Simone
The jazzy version of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, just can't stop listening to it.
"The Ecstasy of Gold" - Ennio Morricone
Film music taken from "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly." Utterly compelling stuff, amazingly emotional.
"Staraflur" - Sigur Ros
One of the more recent additions to my tastes, it blends a wonderful method of classical music and early Radiohead stuff. If you ever really need to relax, listen to this.
"When I was Seventeen" - Frank Sinatra
I don't really know what it is about this... I just love his voice, excellent singer. It's a simple song, without a real middle, just a start and finish...
"Paranoid Android" - Radiohead
I write a lot, and one of the stories I wrote, called Seven, was written entirely to this song played over and over. It inspires confusion in my mind like nothing else.
Because the 1st time I heard it ,I was blown away. And then after 7 years of searching, I found the CD and now have all 17mins of that song. Perfect 8min drum solo/freak out over and over again.
"Who Wants To Rock?" - Clutch.
Because it's 1:03 of pure rock fury that gets me out of bed each day
"Sittin' on the Dock of The Bay" - Otis Redding
Because it is quite possibly the finest song ever written. It works when you're happy, works when you're sad, works when you're on the other side of the planet and missing someone.
"Soul To Squeeze" - Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Because of the lyrics and the solo with the huge crashing cymbals.
"Street Spirit (Fade Out)" - Radiohead
For personal reasons.
