You can have 5 (music) CDs, albums, and 5 only. Compilations not allowed, but greatest hits albums are.
So what are they?
And: Suggest one album you think is good and that most people won't have heard, with a couple of words describing the style of music.
I'll go first in a second (hmm..), but I don't want to clutter the top message any more than I already have.
Just sticking with the one though. :-)
The Stone Roses (The shops might not have it so try Amazon)
Basically the band that brought life back into British music and inspired the entire generation of mid-nineties bands including Blur and Oasis.
Liam Gallagher completely idoled the Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown, so much so, that when you see Ian Brown's picture, the first thing you'll think is "Liam Gallagher!"!
The music itself will probably remind you of the 60's sound, only refined and improved with modern ideas and equiptment.
One of the very few bands that could be deep and meaningful without having to resort to being depressing and miserable!
The songs range from uplifting tunes like "Waterfall" and "She Bangs the Drum", through the trippy sounds of "I Wanna Be Adored" and "Shoot You Down", to the more traditional rock style of "I am the Resurrection!".
There's also a take of Scarborough fair with changed lyrics so that it became a death threat towards the Queen! :-D
Other than that, the music is absolutely beauitiful, and it's pretty a unique sound as well. Makes a change from most modern bands who think they have to scream their heads of to make their point heard...
Maybe the most perfect Feeder album to date, lots of fantastic tunes for any situation.
HIM - Love Metal
I don't think it's even been released over here yet but it's their latest album and greatest yet, I'd recommend their previous albums too, Razorblade Romance and Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights. A band everyone should listen to, this music grows on you.
CKY - Camp Volume 1
This is something to rock to, it's not punk, it's not metal, this is rock and better than what everyone else calls rock. This guys bang out some of the most brilliantly tweaked songs ever.
Sahara Hotnights - Jennie Bomb
This is one of those albums you just love to listen to, some nice punk to get your erm ear drums vibrating you and it's an all girl band! (Note; better than the Donnas and The Hives)
Ohhhhhhh only one more, time for something different
Bloodhound Gang - Hooray for Boobies
Stupid tunes and dirty ballads make for some weird music, I like it because it's funny and I'm f*cked up like that. Listen to them for real dumb lyrics, Jimmy Pop was probably dropped on his head as a baby.
And my one I'd recommend?.......... HIM (or HER if you live in America) You just need to listen to these guys, the lead singer (Vile Valo) is a bit of gothy dresser but this is music. Try it.
Quite frankly one of the greatest punk/hardcore CDs of recent years, and nothing short of revolutionary. In a time where much of the hardcore genre was becoming stale, Refused released this album that was as experimental as it was heavy and contains songs that I will never forget.
Refused - Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent
Another Refused CD, their second full length ('The Shape...' was their third) 'Songs to Fan...' is a much more straight forward affair, with downbeat metallic hardcore, but done with such unrelenting intensity and passion it's hard not to love it.
The Clash - The Essential Clash
I don't actually own this, but it the most recently released Clash 'best of' and is apparently the best of the best ofs... so I assume it has a lot of songs from 'The Clash' and 'London Calling' (both of which I own and are superb) and it's a double CD so additional listening pleasure when I'm stuck on that Desert Island...
Hmm... getting very tough to decide now...
Which Bad Religion CD...
Bad Religion - All Ages
Kind of another cop-out choice, I can't decide which BR CD, so I'm deciding on another 'best of' (despite me not owning it...) but anyway, this should have a good variety of their tracks from their very early releases back in the mid 80s up to whenever this best of came out...
Green Day - International Superhits
Sorry, yet another cop-out best of, but quite frankly, Green Day are another band with so many quality CDs you'd be hard pressed to pick just one...
My one that no-one will have heard but everyone who listens to punk/alt/anything remotely heavy should own is "Refused- The Shape of Punk to Come" because it is quite simply one of the best albums I have ever heard and is incredibly diverse (ranging from metallic hardcore to punk-rock to a mellowed out trancey-style track to the final track just featuring Dennis Lxyzen's strained melodic vocals over some basic guitar work). Anyway, suffice to say that album blew me away and is in a word stunning.

*shakes head*
The Clash? The Dead Kennedys? Bad Religion? All of these were much more influential in punk rock. And Ixnay is far superior anyway... :P
Americana - The Offspring : The Offspring's most famous album. A classic. THE defining moment of punk rock.
Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers : Voted the best album of 99 for a reason. Listen as the Chilis change from funk to more easy-listening to produce their new-famous style.
Parachutes - Coldplay : Ultimate chillout, a fantastic example of an up-and-coming band that recently enjoyed great success with their second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head.
By The Way - Red Hot Chilis : In 2002 the red hots finally reached their perfect sound, an eclectic, wondrous mix of funk and indie. Definitely going down as a classic. The pinnacle of the Chili empire.
40 licks - The Rolling Stones : A superb band rounded off with a cracking greatest hits album, its huge! Shows that the best bands perhaps get even better with age.
The One...
Americana - The Offspring : Just the one Offspring album (out of 6) that sticks in my mind as a masterpiece. All of the Offspring albums are good but multi-platinum Americana seemed to lift the Punk rock scene and get the band back in the mainstream media. Despite getting on a bit now (it was originally released in 1998) It's going down as a classic and any self-respecting music-buff should own this.
My fave will have to be RHCP - By the way.
Because its such a good album by such a good band! Loads of excellent guitar riffs, and basslines. Especially "Venice Queen"
> i seen spunge live at distortion 2002
My friend went to that, At wollaton park was'nt it?
Anyway.
System of a Down - Toxicity
Red Hot Chili Peppers - By The Way
Queens of the Stone age - Songs for the deaf
Incubus - S.C.I.E.N.C.E
Placebo - Sleeping With Ghosts
