I dont know how but one of my DVD's has a minor scratch on it. Its near the outter rim and if held up in the light correctly it disappears but its there and I dont want it to be. Its on my region 1 version of Tomb Raider so I was wondering if anybody knew of any CD/DVD reapir kits that you can get. I know I have seen a few before and they do exist. Can any one recommend a kit too me ?

Cheers Wookiee. I tried it and couldnt feel any sign of a deep scratch. So it should be ok for the time being. I will try to find a DVD repair kit so in future if this rare advent happens again I can be prepared. Think i'll go and have a go on Silent Hill 2 now.

There are web sites that offer cd/dvd repair, You send the disc off and they scrape the layer off (and the scratch) and recoat it complety. I know a person who has one of these machines and it works wonder, can't remember the web address but searching on yahoo might be a good place to start.

It's not so much the length of the scratch, more the depth of it.

Run your fingernail (gently!) across the scratch - if you can barely feel it, then it's probably not going to be a problem. If it's a deep gouge, then chances are it will probably give you problems.

I have a few discs that have light 'scratches' on them, but you can't feel them using the above method, and they don't affect the disc playback at all.

How big would you consider to be a minor scratch Wookiee. The scratch on Tomb Raider is maybe 1 cm long maybe a few mm over 1 cm. Is this a minor scratch or would it be considered major. It does also disappear when you view the DVD from certain Angles.

Ok thanx, I think Tomb Raider is a sort of goldey tint to it. If it doesnt effect play back then I am not worried but I've already watched the special features and they were alright but I dont know if the scratch was on it before or after. I will watch the film sometime in the near future and will be able to see.

Not sure about a DVD repair kit, but I'm not sure if you should use a CD repair kit on a DVD - remember that some DVD's (DVD9 is it?) are not silver in colour, and you may screw it up totally.

If the scratch doesn't affect the disc's playback, then don't worry about it. Several of mine had very, very minor scratches when I bought them (particularly Buffy Season 2, because of the poor packaging) but they don't affect playback, so I'm not too worried about it.
