Okay, I have a d*****s for a brother, so he lost the manual for the psp.

I want to put music on it, went on the psp site, it says "I might want to back up some files on the memory stick duo before "formatting it"."
What does this mean, and how do I do it?

Formatting means removing all the information from it and setting it up from scratch for using.

It's just incase you have saves/music/movies etc already on the card you might want to copy and paste them onto your PC and then copy the ones you want back over once you've formated the memory stick.

if you want to know how to do it.

1. Turn on psp
2. Scroll left to "Settings"
3. Scroll down to "System Settings"
4. click to open the menu
5. Scroll down to "Format Memory Stick"
6. Click once to get in to the menu
7. Select "Yes" or "No"

Remember like Aliboy says you will lose everything already on the stick this includes save games.

I did it, backed up all my saved games, then put some Nick;eback and Johnny Cash songs on the psp.

When I try to play it says something about copyright.

More help.

That might be the format of the songs. They're not WMA files, by any chance?

Try to use a free program from the net to change the format (or itunes etc should be able to manage it) to MP3 first.
