I can safely say that most of us here are hardcore gamers (and a few worthless social gazers, of course) and that we are right near the top of the list in terms the gaming industry.
That is unless you have a job in gaming, the ultimate job, as a games tester, producer, programmer or anything else, it doesn’t matter what you do your right up there ‘king of the heap’.

But is there another way to become king?
Another, all together more criminally insane kind of king.
Yes, indeed!

The person that lives as a game character.

Just imagine walking down a busy shopping centre as Squall. That furry-necked top, the belts, the big hair and the Gunblade (swung casually over your shoulder).
Only to hear loud shouting behind you,

“Stop! Don’t move! You’re under arrest!”

Then to reply, sooooo coolly

“Whatever”

And walk, ever so slowly, away in a sulk, ah! Bliss!

Or to be walking through an old mansion (girlies only, I'm afraid) when several barking rockweilers run up behind you. Then, all of blur, to perform a sudden commando roll, pull out your twin pistols and shoot them dead in seconds while jumping back flips.
Wow!

Or to walk down the pavement an something evil clicks inside you.
You jump atop a parked car, whip out a giant machine gun and blasting that doddering granny with the zimmer frame walking innocently by. Then breaking open the door and driving off at top speed, whilst splatting civ’s, smashing rozzers and listening to the hilarious radio.
Cool!

I’m sure there’s lots more too, but hell, you lot should do some work too!

So, how much cooler would it be if you could do all these things.
Cool as in no-one actually dies or gets hurt, obviously.
But, what I mean is.....hey! That sounds exactly like what happen everyday at our homes.
Death, violence and (naturally) animal cruelty and all in one box, without any danger to anyone (except out poor eyes).

Damn! Gaming be cool, man!
I think all this violence in games may just be good for you. Getting it all out your system, killing that bloke that looks remarkably like your best friend is a hell of a lot better than actually beating them senseless, know what I mean?
And GTA3 really lets you get it out your system, with the killing and the police and the crime you don’t really feel like going and killing anyone after playing it.

And that’s a good thing, maybe giving hardened criminals a PS2 and GTA3 could really help them ( or otherwise just make them even worse) but it probably would let them see how much more fun it is killing fake people and stealing fake cars then doing the actual thing, it might be more realistic, but not for long!

Ah, oh dear. I’ve kind of gone off the point that I started with, but who cares. If anyone acted like that it would be cool and wowish and amazing, but also insane and dangerous and arrestable (Except the Squall thing, that’d just be the best).
So (I think) what I'm trying to say here is that gaming rules a lot better than doing the real thing would. You can even do things you could never do in real life, and what’s better than that? And when the technology comes out to put yourself into a game (I know it has kinda already, but that’s crap at the moment) and the graphics are super-realistic, why the hell would anyone in their right minds do anything else?
T
he whole world should be shut up in little rooms, talking to their mates over a long-range phone thingy and virtually going to the shop to buy their shopping, then coming out, sooting their mum on the street and then going to their virtual house (in the virtual world) sitting down exactly where they are in real life and then virtually play a virtual game.
A whole world in 1 room?
It could happen.

And, damn would that be fun. (except the rickets due to lack of sunshine, of course).

If all these idea come true (I wish! I wish!) then they better happen pretty damn soon before i’m old and senile saying
“In my day we had strange boxes linked to a TV, none of this fancy stuff”
and drinking through a straw.

i think you’ll all get what I’m on about. So..

Thanks for reading,

FFF
