Hi Freeola,
With changes allowing non-Latin characters to be used with domain names are you aware of any changes in the pipeline that will allow the use of & 'ampersand'?

i.e. something&something.com

Thanks,

Yep that's the type of thing.

In the Wiki article time line it shows things are moving. May 2010 saw the first live implementations.

Bottom line
- if/when '&' Ampersand should become available to use/register in a domain name it would be appreciated if Freeola could give people notice here as I for one will be interested in registering some more domains!

Thanks,

Haha it's our Freeola Domain Team ;)

This is the kind of information that I have been sadly unable to obtain thus far, so happy to see you checked up.

I think what Hmmm is referring to is Internationalized Domain Names or IDNs (Wikipedia entry is probably clearer and more interesting!). If this is what he's talking about then yes certain registries are working towards IDN support and several already support it (.com/.net, .name, .cc, .tv, .biz, .info, .me, .org and .eu). It's a bit complicated and uses Puny code but it's something we will have to support at some point

Thanks for the replies.
Lots of people thought that non-Latin chars wouldn't come, and the .xxx TLD.

I was hoping Freeola's 'domain team' might have inside information! ;¬)

Interesting to see the number of views this short post has had.
I guess others are also interested in whether using & 'ampersand' in domain names will happen one day!

I tend to agree, although I am by no means the authority on such. So I was going to try and find out if anyone else had heard anything. None of us have though, but the consensus is in agreement with Garin.

Its a reserved character, it already has meaning in urls. The chances of it appearing in domains are non-existent I would think.

I have not been aware of this personally, however it interests me so I will try and grab and update from someone in the domain team.
