Haaah flashbacks! The day to really remember - NES launch day. Nintendo had everything in the making to grab our attention with this humanly grasping machine. Now, no disrespect to NES because at the time it rocked our world. It didn't disappoint us in the least for we hadn't seen such games in the long run that could satisfy as much as this could. As usual with Nintendo Mario has to be included somewhere and here he is! His truly addictive game Mario World was the main cause to so many NES consoles breaking down - you just couldn't give it a rest! Every time you felt that little bit bored, turn on your NES and play, play, play! NES was the ultimate RPG console. Never before had we seen so many RPG's competing with one another in such a popular console. Ahead of them all was Final Fantasy series as well as Zelda with lots more running just behind them. With these games your intellectual level could increase in a matter of days due to so many dialogues. Sometimes a bit cheesy, but it helped the storyline a lot.
Every gamer had played and loved NES mainly because of its revolutionary role in console gaming especially.
...Following NES was SNES then N64! Yes, Nintendo followed their console up with greater improvements. And surprise, surprise everyone loved it!
Aaaah Playstation, the one and only. When this came out we at last saw adverts for good games! Hurray, you may all say, but I found these adverts to be quite deceiving. You see the adverts mainly showed FMV of the game and rarely showed the in-game action - now that's deceit!
Anyway, these adverts dragged in a wider audience away from the Nintendo craze. Why? We saw a machine produced, which edged us that little bit closer to reality, both in graphics and gameplay. Playstation really set the standard. But what really did it for the Playstation was the superb games that arrived gradually. Although quite expensive I felt that they were worth buying, some of them anyway. All you Nintendo lovers may still be locked in the closet of Nintendo, but many like me have seen the light.
My attitude towards Playstation games was like everyones attitude to football. I loved it! There isn't a time I can remember doubting Playstation in any way, that was until Alone in the Dark came out. For some reason this game simply felt and looked like a rushed attempt trying to imitate Resident Evil's glory, bad mistake! After first play, I never wanted to see the sight of that fake-monstered game!
Other than that Playstation was great. Sometimes you cannot help, but admire your console, feeling priveleged to have one - that's how Playstation made you feel!
Everyone has an attitude for games. We all feel good when we've made the right choice picking a game, but just that unwanted feeling of regret when we buy a rubbish game (mainly because of deceitful adverts) is enough to leave us depressed. This is the reason why we have reviews - so we don't randomly pick a game, which we know nothing about. You can't imagine gaming without reviews can you, it's too unimaginable.
We have so many dejavus today because of constantly repetitive games that just don't deliver anything never seen before. Fifa for example, have tried and tried to make a new feel towards their games, but haven't succeeded. If they did it jusn't wouldn't be Fifa would it?! Developers desperately need to develop games that withdraw from the repetitive department. Most of us are sick of seeing the same attributes in games for the same genre, we need to see different games or there would be no point in different associated developers. They could all work together, but not to the fans satisfaction.
Gaming has come a long, long way and through each different stage of gaming we've all felt some way about certain games. Obviously, good games received a good response, but badly disappointing games that were wrongly hyped up only achieved in sending the wrong attitude towards games. Today we thank such games like GTA3 and Excitebike for fulfilling their goals in satisfying gamers and that's what we must see in the future in order for gaming to continue.
Next time you go to your local/regular games shop and you see a truly tempting front cover of a game just remember what you've heard or read about the game before purchasing, and PS2 owners, do not make the mistake of buying FreakOut or The Bouncer, two hugely anticipated titles that disappointed in a lot of ways. Simply watch out 'cos there're a lot of stinkers about!
Keep on gaming and thanks for reading
