I ordered the entry level creative sound card coz it was cheap and sound isn't a major hang up for me. Then it suddenly occured to me the card might be too basic!!! Could it be incapable of producing some sounds/voices???
...and if you do want surround sound, get an SB live! 5.1 for £30. Inspire 5300 or DTT3500 speakers compliment it nicely - £90 and £280 respectively. If you're loaded enough to ge the latter, suggest you go with an audigy platinum instead..
I used to use the Sound Blaster 16 till a few months ago when I was forced to change it. It was fine. Worked great. SOund wasn't perfect but OK. As long as you dont want surround sound or anything, your fine.
Intresting question, but I wouldn't have thought so, just buy a AWE32 compatable and you'll be fine, but i'd recommend a SB Live card, it's only £45 and well worth it.
anyway, the audio sounds are completely different for different cards, you might find that a entry level card slows your pc down.
