The first point I’d like to drag up is the problem with different speeds of modem. Take for example an online game of Black and White, with the two players who have different speeds of modem. One has a normal 56k modem relatively slow, and the other has a Broadband connection making it 10 times faster then the 56k modem. This brings up several problems in game play. While loading up the map to both players, it will take around 30 seconds for Broadband, while on the 56k it will take several minutes. This means the Broadband user has to wait longer for the sake of the slower modem. Then when it finally loads up, the Broadband user is confronted with another problem, to compensate for the slower 56k modem, the game slows itself down for the Broadband user to make up for the difference. Causing the problem commonly known as 'lag'. This annoys the Broadband user, while the 56k user knows nothing of the problem. Also chat is slowed, and it could take up to a minutes for a message to come through. Because of these problems, the Broadband user leaves because no one can play a game at the speed. This is extremely annoying, and many games are stopped, because of the Difference in speed. There should be marker next to someone name, showing the speed so people can be warned before hand. Or even have special rooms that are only for certain speeds, this would help online gamers tremendously.
Also a common problem is the lack of different levels, when hosting games i have looked for a good level, and their maybe only half a dozen too choose from. Also if their are inexperienced people on the game, it is too easy to win, and it is just like having the rubbish AI players back again. There should be a wider range of levels to choose from, also there should be a system to state the experience of the player. I have to admit their is a simple one on Black and White but i have seen it muck up so many times it's not worth mentioning.
I want to know what everyone else thinks of the problems I’ve brought up, and how gaming companies could solve them!
