Good evening all you rap Music lovers, I’m about to review Dr. Dre’s album 2001. This album has been out for a while but I feel in case you don’t have it, I should try and persuade you to buy it as it is worth it. This album features numerous other rap stars such as Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit and Nate Dogg just to name a few. The album features 22 songs and a UK bonus video CD-Rom featuring Still D.R.E and Forgot about Dre. I will now do a track-by-track review of the songs. Enjoy my fellow Rap lovers………. (If you see “Censored…Etc its not the name of the song its just the title of the song has a rude word).

1 Lolo (intro) featuring Xzibit & Tray-Dee - This lasts about 13 seconds and is basically the guys swearing and you can hear Dr. Dre in what seems to be in a robot suit walking…….. Interesting.

2. “The Watcher” - This is a good song with good lyrics and a base beat that compliments the song greatly. The chorus is “Everywhere that I go, aint the same as before, people I used to know, just don’t know me no more”. The lyrics are good and Dre seems to be rapping about the changing of rap. Overall a good song.

3. “Censored You” – Featuring Devin a/k/a The Dude & Snoop Dogg – The start of this songs seems to be a recorded answer phone message of someone (possibly his wife) saying how much she misses him. This song is basically about Hookers and how he….Well…Does….You know what I mean! The chorus (Well as much I can say of it about without being banned) is “I just want to **** you, no touching and rubbing girl, you got a husband who loves you” I think that’s about enough of that thank you! The tune is great, I cant really describe it, but if you hear it you will no what I mean. A pretty good song, if you try to forget the lyrics!

4. “Still D.R.E” – Featuring Snoop Dogg - Well where should I start? I think most people have heard this song as he released this. Dre talks about how he has Signed Emimen and is still doing everything he used to. The tune is a piano repeating the same notes over again, (In posh voice) I think the correct term is an Ostinato you know. The chorus is “Representing for all the gangsters across the world” Then some words I cant understand but hey that’s rap for you! A great song.

5.“Big Ego’s – Featuring Hittman – The start of the song is a guy saying some stuff like “Ground Control” and “Over” with a piano playing in the background. I personally don’t like this song but you may well do. The chorus “Dedicated to all of those with Big Ego’s, never faking we get the dough and live ego” As I said I don’t like this song so its not one of my favourites.

6. “XXplosive” – Featuring Hittman, Kurupt, Nate Dogg, & Six – Two - I like this song it has a great tune, even a glockenspiel makes its debut! The Chorus is “XXplosive, west cost s***” I cant really say the rest. I good song, but I really only like the tune.

7. “What’s the difference” – Featuring Eminem & Xzibit – This is not a great song in my opinion, but hey why does my opinion matter?! The tune seems very familiar to me, maybe from an Emimen song. The Chorus is “What’s the difference between me and you? You talk a good one, but you don’t do what your supposed to do”.

8. “Bar one” - Featuring Traci Nelson, Ms. Roq & Eddie Griffin – This song starts as basically two girls at a bar ordering drinks and swearing, but thank god the song suddenly appears! (As a separate track but the two link together) WHOOO!! Actually I don’t like this song so maybe it wasn’t good that song suddenly appeared. The chorus is….Oh what a shame the song has finished! Oh well.

9.The song above rolled into this one so I put them together.

10. “Forgot about DRE” – Featuring Eminem – Again Mr. Dre released this song of the album, I think this song is great both rap and the tune have an excellent touch. The Chorus is “Now days everybody want to talk like they got something to say, but nothing comes out when they move there lips, just a bunch of gibberish and what the f*** is that like they forgot about Dre”. A great song.

11. “The next episode” – Featuring Snoop Dogg – This is another song the Dr released of this album, this is my favourite song of the album as it features a great beat and a better rap to top it all off. The chorus is……Actually I don’t think there is one! I’m not sure but I can’t hear one. Any way a great song.

12. “Lets get high” – Featuring Hittman, Kurupt & Ms. Roq – I really like this song, the start is “All these n****** and all these hoe’s and hear somebody give a f***?” This is another song about doing well I’ve already explained before. The chorus is “Lets get high, lets get high, high, c’mon lets get high”. A great song which you will always want to hear when you’re in a good mood.

13. “Censored Censored” – Featuring Snoop Dogg, Hittman, & Six – Two – I don’t like this song and I’m afraid I cant say much about it as it has quite a lot of swearing, so I guess you will just have to buy this album and found out what it’s like!

14. “The car bomb” – Featuring Mel-Man, & Charis Henry – This is just an intro to the next track, it features to people getting in a car. The car wont start so they start to swear at each other, and then you just hear a loud explosion.

15. “Murder Ink” – Featuring Hittman, & Ms. Roq – This is an ok song, but I mainly like the tune not the actual rap. I would tell you the chorus but the only thing I could say would be “Murderer” There’s not much point in that is there? The tune once again uses pianos to great effect.

16. “Ed-ucation” – Featuring Eddie Griffin – This is another intro. It’s basically Eddie talking about something with some music in the background.

17. “Some L.A. Censored” – Featuring DeFari, Xzibit, Knoc-Turn’al Time Bomb, King T, MC Ren & Kokane – This is a good song, but my god is it necessary to have so many people in the song?! I like this song because during the song they have pauses that make it sound really good. The rap is good, but I think because there are so many rappers it gets confusing. A good song that I’m sure you will enjoy.

18. “Pause 4 porn” – Featuring Jake Steed – Another bloody intro! Also a pointless one, basically you can hear two people having sex and screaming, funny in places but I mean why did they put that in?

19. “Housewife” – Featuring Kurupt & Hittman – A good song. The rap is the best part of the song. The chorus is “ Bet you cant make a Hoe a housewife, when it all boils down a dog is a mans best friend” That’s all I can repeat. A good song that is good to listen to on a lazy day.

20. “Ackaite” – Featuring Hittman – I think this song is great the beat is so good I just cant help listening to it. The chorus is “One in my left hand, drink in my right, strap round my waist coz n****** don’t fight” A good song which is well produced.

21. “Bang Bang” – Featuring Knoc-turn’al & Hittman – Hmmmmmmm….I’m not sure whether I like this (there’s always one isn’t there) Its an odd song but then again its good to listen to if that makes sense.

22. “The Message” – Featuring Mary J Blige & Reil – This is a great song, it is dedicated to Dre’s younger brother Tyre who I think was shot, you can tell it came from the heart and its really good just to listen to and relax. Mary J performs very well in this. The chorus is “I miss him oooo I miss him yer” and so on. A great song and a great way to end the album.

This is a great album and should be on every rap fans shelf. The only problem is, is that there are too many intros but apart from that its really good. I would rate this CD 9/10 .

Thanks for reading

Not at all Dres best album.

The Watcher was the best song on the album, you really have to know the history of Hip Hop and the conflict between the labels and the personal matters of Snoop and Dre.

The lyrics will mean so much more then.

An ok review though. You got some of the chorus lines wrong though.

Gotta disagree with you on Whats The Difference - it's the best track on the album, bar none.

If you liked this alb, get Xzibits 'Restless'. It's much better.

Excellent review there Jester and a potential Filmaday winner. The tracks must have been fendishly short if all 22 tracks could fit on a 74-80 minute CD! Anywho, as long as the CD has Dre, Snoop and Eminem on, it must be pretty good. I'm rather surprised that the makers of the CD decided to cram 22 tracks on, because they normally like the place the minimum ammount possible, so they can cash in on making a 2nd CD. It sounds like good value for money. Well done again with the review Jester and have fun listening to the CD.

Apart from the ones e actually released as singles I liked Track 2, that's the one that started off as "Things just aint the same for gangsters" right?

If it is I like that one, the lyrics are good too, top album and top review to compliment it, well done Jetster.

Not really keen on the rest of the album, but I like this tune, the tune in the background is the theme from the horror film Halloween.
