Hi,

just got myself an xbox and want to hook it up to my stereo if possible.

I've got :
Advanced Scart cable
tv with no stereo output

On my ps2, the advanced scart has stereo output on it as well, but on the xbox advanced scart I can only see the optical output for a 5.1 stereo. Is there any way I can hook it up to my normal stereo, or am I doomed to listen to substandard telly sound?

Just get a dual pair of RCA Phono cables and run 'em through to your stereo, you can buy Advanced SCART sets with these on...

Yeah, I'm probably wrong. I'm not yet hooked up, so am unable to give the best information. Listen to Allistair ;)

£100? Mine was about £217 including the Advanced Scart and extras I needed to set my GameCube up for it as well. Don't forget that the system needs an optical input otherwise it is no good. All the ones I have see for around £120 don't include the option for optical input.

Well you can pick up a 4.1 system for around £50 but I don;t know what sort of quality that is. But, I found a system (second hand) 5.1 2 speakers on stands, 3 seperate beauties and a huge subwoofer for 49.99 in Leicester... should of snapped it up. Haven't been since but if it's there when I return, I'll get the beauty.

Otherwise we're looking at around £100 for a decent sort of kit, places like Argos, Currys, Dixons, Maplin are all worth a look, but keep and eye out for the bargains (;oD)

yeah, hey let us know where to buy a good and reasonably cheap dolby 5.1 system from will ya. I have a medium sized room, I'm going to be using my xbox for games and DVDs, so want a pretty loud jobby, but I also have a normal stereo with CD player/tape deck and that, so don't want all that with it.

What sort of price are we talking here - I want crisp picture and great sound, but can't get it with my current set up.

Try the stereo option then. I have a 28 incher (easy) in my room, using just the standard SCART. It's still good, but I hope to pick up a 5.1 kit with and advanced SCART ASAP. You may need to split the cable of the normal SCART if your Stereo and TV are reasonable far away. It worked for me...

its a 21 incher (oo-er), I'll give it a try and see if it makes much difference.

what tweaks my melon is that one of the telly speakers keeps randomly going off and then coming back on again.

Slighlty improved quality graphics & poor sound

or

Excellent sound & less sharp imaging.

Really though, it depends upon what size your TV is if you are worried about the graphical quality. If its small (ish) Go for the second optione, but I would recommend the first option if you have a huge screen... :S
