Nintendo Entertainment System
LEGEND OF ZELDA. Link, the hero of this first adventure, began life searching for Princess Zelda. When first released this game was considered ground breaking; with it’s large play area, nine labyrinths, dozens of individually powered creatures and monsters, a plethora or magical items and weapons AND a maze like world. You could even save your games, on battery back ups, which was considered brilliant back then.
THE ADVENTURE OF LINK. This is one of the most memorable Link adventures I’ve ever played. The new features are almost innumerable, there are combat and adventure views (Birds eye view and the classic 2D side view), you can interact with the inhabitants of the villages, discover secret area’s, build up your own magic and fighting attributes. The memorable part of this game is definitely when you’re walking over a bridge and the wind tries to blow you off (It’s either wind or water).
Nintendo Gameboy Mono/Pocket
LEGEND OF ZELDA: LINK’S AWAKENING. The only Gameboy Adventure featuring Link. Full of puzzles, mazes, collectables and mini-quests to do you can’t go wrong with Links Awakening. Beating bosses and enemies can really test your skills, working out weaknesses such as certain weapons to use and weak points on the body can challenge your wit to it’s full potential. The hardest part of this classic adventure is at the very end when you enter the egg and have to solve the rock hard puzzle, a lot easier if look at the books in the library though.
SUPER Nintendo Entertainment System
LEGEND OF ZELDA: A LINK TO THE PAST. Link to the past is my personal favourite Zelda game of all time. As if one huge world isn’t enough there was a second world just as huge as the first. So many secrets in this game made it so hard, but still fun, to complete. The amount of bosses blew me away when I realised how many there were, definitely the biggest of all the Legend of Zelda games, even bigger than hits like Ocarina of Time and Oracle of Seasons. You could fight the final boss over and over again and not get bored of it. My favourite bit on this game would probably be on the seventh world. The most awesome boss you could ever imagine, brilliant the feeling when you beat him, this is pure gaming bliss at it’s best, the best Zelda game you could wish for, lets hope Nintendo just keeps on producing that sweet… sweet, Zelda gaming.
Nintendo Gameboy Colour
LEGEND OF ZELDA: LINKS AWAKENING DX. “”The only Gameboy Adventure featuring Link. Full of puzzles, mazes, collectables and mini-quests to do you can’t go wrong with Links Awakening. Beating bosses and enemies can really test your skills, working out weaknesses such as certain weapons to use and weak points on the body can challenge your wit to it’s full potential. The hardest part of this classic adventure is at the very end when you enter the egg and have to solve the rock hard puzzle, a lot easier if look at the books in the library though.”” Also DX featured one extra dungeon where you have a chance of winning a new tunic (One can be used for defence and one for attack). The boss is the hardest boss you could imagine. Also mild graphic enhancements have taken place but not much.
LEGEND OF ZELDA: ORACLE OF SEASONS. Oracle of Seasons is very much like Links Awakening but better! Like all Zelda games there are bosses to beat, items to collect, puzzles to figure out and mazes to explore. This is no exception of a classic. All the greatness of DX and more really means ultimately, this is the best Gameboy Colour game out at the moment. My favourite part is when you change the seasons, so refreshing.
LEGEND OF ZELDA: ORACLE OF AGES. Oracle of ages is basically the same as Seasons except for it is that tiny bit harder. Zelda games, just can’t get enough of that sweet, sweet candy.
Nintendo 64
LEGEND OF ZELDA: OCARINA OF TIME. Ocarina of time, like Link to the past, has two separate worlds that are two in the same. You can’t help to love this beautifully looking adventure classic. This is the best Zelda game for the N64 for sure. If someone can honestly find something to fault about this game I will shake there hand say something very clever and witty. Riding Epona for the first time is the best feeling you could wish for, when you jump out of ranch you feel so good. Another brilliant moment with Epona is when you jump the bridge to get to the desert. If you want a game with great atmosphere, this is the one, the Forest temple is the most atmospheric level on any game you’ll ever come across. My favourite part in this game is when you first change from Link as a child to a big 16 year old Link. The Master Sword video clips are always the best on Zelda.
LEGEND OF ZELDA: MAJORA’S MASK. Majora’s Mask is the weirdest Zelda title of all. The graphics are sharp and the puzzles are rock hard. As ever this Zelda title is full of puzzles (The hardest puzzles of all the Zelda games), mini-quests and collectables. This may not be as good as Ocarina of time but it’s still a classic N64 hit that shouldn’t be missed. When you take off the Deku Shrub mask for the first time you’ll get really surprised, how cool the it is to see Link screaming in pain that is. The levels are so hard to get 100% complete, getting the extra heart pieces and collecting all the fairies is such a challenge.
SUPER SMASH BROS. Link featured in this all star beat ‘em up along with the likes of Mario, Metroid, Kirby and many more. This is a classic beat ‘em up that you really should get if you’re not already a proud owner of this game or you just don’t like beat ‘em ups. Smash Bros. Really shows that beat ‘em ups can have good graphics and don’t have to be 2D like Clayfighter 63¾.
Now lets take a look UP Link lane… lets see what’s happening there…
Nintendo Gamecube
LEGEND OF ZELDA: GAMECUBE. A brand new idea from Nintendo, testing Nintendo’s skills to make any game classic and well, brilliant. The new ‘Cartooned’ Zelda has the more humorous look to it. The other Zelda games have always been serious and more realism than this future classic. All the Zelda games have been classics and I really don’t believe this won’t be. It may have cartooned graphics, but how is that bad? I’m really looking forward to this title, lets hope a cartooned Zelda title comes to the GBA as well.
SUPER SMASH BROS. MELEE. Like the N64, Smash Bros. Melee has a whole load of classic characters including Link, Bowser, Mario and Metroid. This beat ‘em up has top class graphics and the best looking fighting I’ve seen yet. This is on my top ten list.
