So many people on these forums (including myself) have been trying to convince others that Nintendo consoles and games are not just for the kids, but for everyone. But while making games popular with the little 'uns is seen as 'uncool' so people may not want to be assosciated with the company who makes the 'uncool' stuff, the market for kids toys is still there, and is still going to be used to create the latest crazes, and this is especially significant over the christmas period. This year it looks like Harry Potter merchandise is gonna be a goldmine for companies.

But what about Pokemon? This so called 'craze' that caught the attention of a worldwide audience of youngsters. Will Nintendo release a Pokemon GameCube title with the success the GameBoy titles have seen? Will this grab the audience of all the youngsters for the GameCube? I can't say either way, but I predict Nintendo will release a Pokemon GameCube game, and I think it still will be popular. Maybe not as popular as when there was the Pokemon 'craze', but games playing kids will still want it, and the game itself (I've only played Pokemon Red, though) is actually a good game, mixing elements of RPGs, strategy and puzzle solving. The 'nurturing' aspect didn't actually play a huge part, but it would be pretty tiring after all the kids had 'nurtured' their virtual pets to death in previous years.

You may be thinking who cares whether or not Nintendo grab the younger demographic with GameCube, but you will. If GameCube is successful with youngsters, third party developers may actually start to develop games for youngsters, not like Nintendos games which are suitable for all, but still take skill and experience to complete, but things designed with a childs intelligence in mind. The N64 actually had very few of these titles, and the Playstation had many more, but N64 was labelled as 'kiddie' based on graphics, not gameplay. Granted, if GameCube has success with the kids, more developers may be encouraged to make games for it because of the larger audience, but will they make the kind of games that everyone can enjoy (like Nintendo) or will they aim them solely at kids?

It seems to me like a double edged sword.
