Does others use this? will it help? and should I be encouriging my son to alter my router settings.

Cheers for that, I am sure he knows why he wants to do it (games:-) as to what he is doing! not so sure about that, he says if he had his way he would vjust switch of NAT and the firewall! so that says it all.

I use a Linksys BEFSR41 router which does all the port forwarding for me. Others that use different types of router or don't have access to a router sometimes have to forward certain ports manually to enable consoles, games and applications to send and receive information (usually headset comms) properly over the internet.

As long as your son knows what he's doing, and as long as you know why he's doing it, should be fine.
