Just wondering if someone can explain what css style sheets are, how to do them, and what they are good for.

Thanks.

in some old versions of NS including 4.7 reads this as a
so will break the sentence... you can still use and to vary a sentence but as Netscape say themselves "the tag is quirky!"...

Yes, they're basically the same, but the key difference is that
is a "block" element, while is "inline". So after a
container, you get a newline. You can use however to have a different style for one bit of a sentence.
In my experience, Netscape3 interprets CSS on both of these rather differently from IE, although it does seem that NS6 has come back in line with IE. I've had to use

containers to get comparable results in all browsers.

I've never used before. Does it do the same thing as a
or does it only allow you to control the formatting of the text?

I rarely use either (because they almost always denote evil) but I tend to use over
.

True! There's a small difference between the amount of pixels in IE and Netscape, but I only use DIVs for animation and stuff. Sometimes static divs are useful, but you can get the same effect using a class.

aviod DIV tags (quirky across some browsers) and avoid anything in CSS3 as it's not fully supported yet...
