The background story to Pikmin's second outing revolves around Captain Olimar and his mission to save his employers from going bankrupt. However, the story can be largely dispensed with but translates into gameplay in that you have to scour Pikmin's world to find buried treasure - lots of it.
Olimar has an assistant this time around (which you can also control) and between them they command and delegate the cutesy Pikmin in various tasks that range from fighting enemies to proliferation of their species.
Pikmin 2 differs from the original in that there is no time limit on completing the game. It now also has a two-player cooperative mode and, most interesting of all, there are new colours of Pikmin, which should expand the variety of the puzzles and action.
