Let me begin by talking about computer games - I think they are real. Yes, really. They do exist, and I will prove it. They are about bravery and sacrifice (Team Fortress) and about facing insurmountable odds (Command and Conquer). They are about altruism (Quake 3 arena), about becoming a good manager and not turning you back on responsabilities (Ultima Online) They are also about searching for the truth (Fianl Fantasy 7) and finding out your true nasty self (Populous). We know what it is like to feel a freak, an outcast (leagacy of Kain), or what it is like to lose someone you love (Final Fantasy 7 - again) The truth is, computer games are not an alternative reality, they are disguised reality. And this is what future of gaming is all about...
well okay, but i did say that there was a relationship... read more carefully, or perhaps i never put my point across correctly. Still all games? Pac-man? yeah i often need to take a certain pill which allows me to chomp ghosts, temporarily destroying them until they regenerate, and of course i love to collect trails of smaller pills!
Nah, the future of gaming is just about making people enjoy themselves as much as possible, relationship to real life is just because it's all we know. Games are about enjoying yourself in a world of fantasy and being able to do whatever you want! Don't think of games as a spiritual thing, they are entertainment, real life should be done in real life and games are not real life.
