A while ago Sony decided that the way to cut their Playstation 3 production costs was to remove backwards compatibility along with two of the USB ports and the card reader. This new gizmo from Logic 3 doesn't restore the backwards compatibility but it does clip onto your PS3 Slim and given you an extra two USB ports and a card reader. It leaves one of the original PS3 USB ports free, and holds on the PS3 so you don't have to worry about it dangling free. Sounds cool, right?

Sort of. The problem is that aside from not sticking out, it actually doesn't really do much more than a standard USB hub/card reader combo. Plus, it doesn't hang on all that well - it's possible to pull it off if you tug a plugged in USB stick out without first putting your hand on the hub. Also, while it reads USB sticks okay, the hub doesn't have enough power to run external USB hard drives, possibly since it draws its power straight from the PS3. There's a socket you can plug an additional adapter into, but none of the power adapters I tried really worked, and it still wouldn't read the USB hdd.

If the lack of USB ports on the PS3 does bug you, then it may be worth checking this out. But given that Nyko have a hub coming out which also slots onto the PS3, and which comes with a remote control, you may be better off hanging on for that one. And to be honest, when was the last time you needed to plug more than two USB devices into your PS3 at once?

The coolest ISP ever!
In my opinion, the ISP is the best I have ever used. They guarantee 'first time connection - everytime', which they have never let me down on.
I am delighted.
Brilliant! As usual the careful and intuitive production that Freeola puts into everything it sets out to do. I am delighted.
