However I’ve talked long enough about the machine itself, its powerful, its got a load of neat new features but what about the games??? Well Microsoft has an impressive line up of games available here, although I’ve only played a few Munches Oddesey, NFL Fever 2001 and Halo. To be fair the first few games are very run of the mill, good games but nothing special. Halo on the other hand is a dream come true. I cant really express how beautiful this game is in words, you have to play it to understand. Needless to say its got lots of guns, great graphics and best of all Jeeps with mounted machine guns to run over your fleeing opponent.
Its not all good news though, the Xbox’s controller is very uncomfortable, more so than even the Dreamcast. The problem is that the pad is just too big, however that is its only real fault. Perhaps its my small British hands, hopefully Microsoft will produce a smaller more comfortable controller for the UK market.
Anyway I'll be reporting on the launch from here in the US in the next 24 hours as it happens, if the launch goes badly Microsoft will be in troubled waters, after all this is home soil for the US giant.
Still I cant see the launch going badly, Americans love new toys and the launch line up seems to be targeted clearly at the gun loving, sport fanatical American audience! Whatever the outcome I’ll report it from here in Raleigh North Carolina as I see it. I may even get to play some more games, provided the store displays don’t get sold.
For those of you who aren’t fortunate to be in the US right now Microsoft has started a UK Xbox website, and plans to have displays available around the country to allow you to experience the Xbox before it reaches the UK in March next year. No doubt Special Reserve will have Xbox displays in their club shops soon as well.
New Jimmy reporting from the USA. :-)
Today belongs to Nintendo, but Microsoft may still win the war. Ultimately with both consoles sold out to preorders, this means that whichever company can supply the most consoles this side of Christmas will win victory.
Halo, Shrek, Airforce DeltaStorm, Dead or Alive 3, Fuzion Frenzy, Mad Dash Racing,Oddworld Munchs Oddessey, NFL Fever 2002.
The only significant change to the Xbox here is that the display units have a new Demo Disc. This allows gamers to try more than one game, most of the new demos are from EA. So you can try Nascar Heat, NHL Hitz 2002 and NFL Fever 2002 amoung others. miles better than the original demo disc, but StarWars Rougue Leader on the GameCube looks more impressive.
The only other news is that Halo sales are high, apart from that the only thing here left to do is wait for the GameCubes arrival tomorrow!
All in all the launch I suppose went well, although only time will tell. It seems as if supply cant meet demand right now, perhaps by the weekend Ill have a better idea of whats going on. I know that Microsoft has had troble with some of its peripherals such as the DVD remote, but thats hardly going to dent sales in the short term and Halo is flying off the shelves.
Microsoft have revealed that they plan to somehow integrate the Xboxs online gaming experience available next year with the MSN network and .Net . news which caught my attention.
In response to The Game, I think the GameCube will sell well too. ToysRus will be a battleground though, the displays in the local ToysRus are amazing. Better than even some gameshops, this perhaps an indication of where the battle will be fought for Nintendos survival.
One thing that suprised me though is that I havent felt immersed in Xbox adverts yet, where did Bills 500 million dollar advertising budget go! The only discussion of the Xbox and GameCube on TV today concluded that this was Sonys battle to lose and that Nintendo arent competing with the Xbox. One lady in Wallmart also thought I was looking for a cardboard box when I mentioned Microsofts new machine!
One things certain, Thanksgiving is comming here in America and is only a week away, this is the time when Americans start buying. So in a weeks time I will have a better idea of whos going to win this battle.

I would - and have!
Reason being to enjoy the best of both worlds. I have a modded Dreamcast which allows me to play games from Japan, America and from over here too and it's the best thing I've had done to it. I have over 38 games for my Dreamcast, all mixed from the mainland territories.

Although quite a few Americans are opting for the Modded Gamecube solution, like me, although I'm not American. :)
Microsoft only have about 300,000 units for day 1. People will have Pre-Ordered an X-Box incase they're local SR: USA sell out so quick.
With almost a million GC's in the first two weeks, I woulnd't worry about pre-ordering, although I would get to the shops at about 8:15 for a 9:00am opening.
Good to hear from you again. I hope you're having a good time in America. You are IN America aren't you?! :D
The X-Box sure does look Big, I mean err, very entertaining. The thing is, it's the exact opposite of the Gamecube. The Gamecube is a very bacic, yet efficient machine with enough power to suit any game, save a couple like GT3. But the X-Box is a monster! Everything, except the pad, seems to be fit for a gaming king.
I've never seriously thought about getting an X-Box - My loyalty to Nintendo (and probably the PS2 i've just ordered - Oops!), has always told me that, like the Dreamcast, i'd be buying a dying machine.
Now, before I get a swarm of Dreamcast fans throwing their fluffy sonic figures at me, I'd like to say that I've had a Dreamcast, (Until it attacked me!). At it was the most attractive, best source of fun i'd ever had. The console was great, the interface was appoealing, and the games, providing you got the right ones were fantastic!
But deaf the DC - This ids Next Gen! :D
Wait until the Gamecube launches, well you'll have to, but people say that it posts, so i thought i would. I'd expect kids everywhere to take their dads and mums to all the KB Toys and the Toys R Us's - It'll be massive!
I think the GC will really take off in America... the launch is VERY solid, and i'm talking about 18 good games - that most gamers could enjoy! I have no doubt that the X-Box will sell out, because I nearly wet myself when i saw an in-game movie of Project Gotham! Not to mention Halo!
It's all very exciting, isn't it!
