I have been offered a cheap P4 by my mate and was just looking for a motherboard. The thing is theres a S478 chipset and a S423 chipset. Whats the difference? Can I tell easily which one I need?

All I know is AthlonXPs rock and Pentium 4s don't.

Yeah, but people are also judging consoles on cpu speed too now. Each machine has a completely different processor architecture, you can't make a comparison based on clock speed between them.

A bit like bit rates on console.

Think you'll find most of the XPs do. The 2GHz is the only serious competitor for power, but the price is ludicrous - it sells to the public, because big numbers must be good. Megahertz myth..

Andi, I think you'll find the AthlonXP 1900+ totally kicks the crap out of the P4 2ghz.

Well Andi, you stole the damn case off me in the first place...judge it by the mods =)

Technically speaking Rob, that isnt the fastest chip (MHz wise anyway), the P4 2GHz holds that title. ANd stop stealing my case ideas! I keep meaning to quote you a beast!
