"Electronic Arts announced today that Need For Speed will be returning to GameCube in the newest incarnation of the racing series, Need For Speed Underground."
"Electronic Arts revealed today that Need For Speed Underground is in development at Black Box. The title, which will appear on GameCube, Xbox, PlayStation 2 and Game Boy Advance, sees the player earning cash in nightly street competitions in order to buy the modifications to build the car of their dreams."
"The racing title is a fully licensed affair with 20 fully customisable licensed cars from Mitsubishi, Subaru, Toyota, and other manufacturers. The extra parts and modifications are also licensed, with Audiobahn, DC Sports, Jackson Racing, and StreetGlow lending their name to the title. Need For Speed is set to ship early 2004 and, as always, we will keep you posted."

I think I'm probably the only person who got around to playing the badly-ported 'Hot Pursuit 2' on the GameCube, so I'm probably only one of a select few of people who might actually be looking forward to this game.
They may not be as fast as Burnout, but I find the Need for Speed games to be quite enjoyable, and even exciting - especially in Hot Pursuit mode when the "Cops" are on your 'tail'. They always seem to have good sountracks, too. ...Aside from one track, or two.
But this one sounds good, and I especially like how it seems you'll be able to almost create your very own car for racing, unlike in so many other racers we see fly-by, each year.
Just as long as it isn't another 'shoddy' PS2-port plagued by bad slow-down, poor handling, and even a big-feature or-two missing here-and-there; it could be one heck of a racing game!
I'll be waiting...
