I believe that the Dreamcast is one of the best consoles ever made - Why? That is the how point of my post!
1. Games - What would be a console without games, and better than that, what would a console be without good games. As I stress, developers can make games in a short period of time to get them on the shelves in time to make some capital. But does that game have a impact on the console, or is it forgotten in a couple of weeks. An example, Sonic the Hedgehog made Sega, it was Segas icon for gaming. When the Dreamcast was launched, Sonic was there looking great as ever. Even the N64 had Mario. But unlike the Paystation and even Playstation 2, what classic character icons have they got to show us. Lara Croft I hear you shout, Core and Eidos helped that to happen, not Sony.
Sega have recenlty brought out a number of excellent games, and their line up is stunning, the only game I have heard that will make a impact on the PS2 is Metal Gear Solid. But can this Movie- like game be sustained enough times to make the PS2 a success. What would a gamer prefere, one good game every year, or two excellently made games coming out every month. I know my answer! Sega have gone for original ideas, that have paid of in the gaming industry. Instead of bringing out games inspired by Movies with the licence, they have made their own crop of games. And there is only one game in this world that i believe used a Movie Licence extremely well, Goldeneye.
It is a good idea having a back format option, but after spending £300, I think you want to play something better than an old plantinum game. At the moment, PS2 are relying heavily on sequels from the previous console, but I believe this wont be enough to keep the gamer happy.
Peripherals - The Dreamcast having 4 ports is a good way of making games with multi player options. But has Sony not learnt from their mistakes, 2 ports. This way they can exploit more customers by having to buy a multi-tap. And at times, multiplayer action can be more fun than online gaming, there is no expensive phone bill, and no lag. But Sony has pushed the boat out to try and convince the gamer Broard band modem technology is the next best thing. It is very good, but also very expensive to use. I would use it all the time, If Sony paid my telephone bill. Looking at the Dreamcast, they have thrown in a modem, it is only 33.6kb, but it is better than nothing. And do you really want to buy your PS2 for £300 with a game on top of that, then to find out you have to buy a Broard band modem, which also dont come cheap. The dreamcast has an excellent ISP that only costs the price of a local phone call, and give it another year I am certain it will be free.
Conclusion - I believe that PS2 will be good, but i know Dreamcast is better, and growing from strength to strength. At the moment, the Dremcast is just getting peoples attentions, but I can bet my bottom doller it will be very big next year.
Stop posting the same thing over and over please, you are tiring my hands out having to explain why you are wrong all the time!
Going by the title, Dreamcast will probably suddenly dissappear like the Saturn did! (That was the only Sega console I ever wanted years ago!)
Nintendo has always had the best quality hardware and software which is why they are so successful! Sony have never used quality just quantity (by which I mean when 1 3D game comes out 15 3D games are released)
Sega have done alright and I expect will do much better that Sony but it will be close between Sega and Nintendo.
Nintendo rule!
