Any gamer older than about 16 will remember the classic age of the 2d shooter.

Games like : xenon 2, project x, r-type, blood money, galaxians(!), silkworm, turrican 2 and swiv

These games were enough to give you epilepsy, with you controlling a spaceship the size of a 50p coin, dodging hundreds of bullets headed in all directions, while blasting ships, installations and batteries. All while negotiating nasty terrain traps etc.

If anything quickened your reactions, and hand-eye coordination, these games were it. You'd think with the amazing technology we have today, we could uprate this genre to create something really special.

the only thing I've seen that comes close was that thing they released on the dreamcast just before it bit the big one.

Bring back the classic shoot-em-up, I am missing the edginess and facial tick.

Moon Cresta is one of my all time top 10 games, fantastic even now. Ikaruga is a 2D shooter coming out on the 'Cube in a few weeks so the 2D Shooter is not dead.

On a completely different subject did anyone own Splat! for the Spectrum, what a game.
