If you're into Survival Horror, the PS2 is the console to own! The masters of the genre - Capcom - will have an impressive three Survival Horror games for the PS2 by December! All of which are excellent games. And as if the delights of Devil May Cry and Onimusha weren't enough, Konami are releasing the sequel to THE most terrifying game of all time - Silent Hill. The sequel will make the likes of Resident Evil look as scary as the new Zelda game. So here are 5 reasons why Silent Hill 2 is going to be the best Survival Horror game…EVER!

1) The story
Silent Hill 2 is probably the first game of it's kind that DOESN'T feature a virus anywhere in it's story-line. You receive a letter from your wife who asks you to visit her in a town named 'Silent Hill' (their 'special' place). That wouldn't be classed as strange, only your wife died from a disease three years ago (yikes!). Silent Hill's story-line isn't just scary, it's plain disturbing! Expect lot's of interesting (and horrifying) twists in the plot too! Great!

2) The characters
Forget cheesy characters such as Chris and Claire Redfield. Silent Hill 2 boasts much more convincing characters. The games main character - James Sunderland - isn't a highly trained police officer, or a retired cop who still has a fondness for kicking butt. He's just a normal bloke who's been dragged into a not so normal situation. When shooting, poor James has the accuracy of a non-league football player! He doesn't have a huge array of hi - tech weaponry either. Instead James must improvise and whack baddies with steel pipes or huge planks of wood (nice!). He isn't alone on his quest either. James will encounter all sorts of strange people, who will either help or hinder him throughout the game!

3) Silent Hill
Probably what makes this game so scary is it's setting. Outdoors is scary enough, with thick fog affecting your sight. But go into a building, and prepare to be one scared gamer! For a start some fool has turned all the lights out, so poor old James must navigate these areas with a torch. The torch casts eerie shadows on the walls and isn't that powerful, so you can't see that far into the distance. But what makes silent hill 2 even more terrifying, is how disgusting each environment looks. Flats are decorated with grimy furniture (and the occasional corpse), and the walls are covered with stains and dirt. Some locations have been ripped straight out of horror films too, I remember entering a strangely lit room with moths fluttering about, which reminded me of the film 'Silence of the Lambs'. Corridors are narrow and dimly lit, giving you a nasty feeling that something is following you! Which ensures that your stay at Silent Hill is a very unpleasant one!

4) The Graphics
When I played 'Code Veronica X' on PS2 for the first time, I was amazed by its visuals. It's the best looking Resi game to date. However, now I've played the Silent Hill 2 demo 'Code Veronica X' looks quite dated! Silent Hill 2 has some of the best graphics I have ever seen. The characters are highly detailed and look astonishingly real. The monsters populating Silent Hill look disgusting, they have slimy skin that reflects light, and they look absolutely terrifying under the light of a torch! As mentioned earlier the environment looks fantastic, and a cool grainy effect has been added to the screen, which makes it look like the whole thing is being shot through a cheap camera! Class.

5) The sound
Silent Hill's sound is also impressive, your player's radio will start to crackle when an enemy is near. This really cranks up the atmosphere, and makes the encounters with monsters even more frightening! The Dual Shock rumbles in time with your players heartbeat, it also rumbles in time to the music. Not that Silent Hill 2 features any music, just the sound of metal scraping against something, or a loud clunking noise thrown in with the occasional note on the keyboard. Weird, but much more atmospheric than the music heard in any other Survival Horror game!

Before I played the demo of Silent Hill 2, I wasn't that interested in it. I was more excited about the cool mixture of guns and swords seen in Devil May Cry. But even though the demo was quite short, I can safely say that Silent Hill 2 is the best in survival horror yet! It's much more enjoyable than it's predecessor, it's much scarier than any Resident Evil game and it looks better than any PS2 game out at the moment. What more could you ask for? GET IT!

The coolest thing I remember about the original, was near the start when you went down a narrow passage. It started to get really dark, and there was some really messed up music playing. Class!

thats true Silent Hill has to be the most frightning, shocking and disturing game out there and it kicks ***, The only let down in the original has to be the poor puzzles but everything else is spot on :-)

Can't wait for it :-)
