I think that Neverwinter Nights heralded a departure from the Baldur's gate type of game for Bioware/Atari. However ff they could make RPG with Baldur's depth and Neverwinters/Dungeon Sieges graphics, that'd be well worth buying.
Neverwinter was ok but the focus on the single player (the party was never quite yours) just didn't enthral me.

i think baldur's gate throne of bhaal was the end of the series
I don't know for sure (at least I've never read a press reease), but I've been lead to believe Baulders Gate 2 was the end of that series...
Though I'm sure in a few years it'll pop its head up again???
