Anywho - it's a flip-top lid, to use with boot discs so that you can play imports and *ahem*s without a mod-chip and get past all the security and regioning thingy bobbin jobbies.

Jimmy, you can get them, i don't know how you fit them though. With the flip lid (similar to the PS1 mechanism), you can also play pirate and import copies of games, so maybe they replace the laser or chip as well as fit the flip lid.
You just lift the top bit of the PS2 off and place the other bit on then it works.
You sure it wasn't just one of those screens you can get?
I dont think a lid top would work, since the laser and and stuff are all inside the thing, you'd need to cut a big hole in the console for it to work, which is stupid.
