"Wireless Rip OFF"

I get a deal with BT Openzone but recently in Dundee I could not access my wireless provider, so had to pay the hotel for access to their wireless provider (Swisscom) and it was rather pricey! £6.50 for 1 hour over 24 hrs, on the way home we had to stop in Edinburgh at a shopping centre and it was FREE WIFI I wonder what motivates some places to provide it free and others to charge the earth.

I see in the press that Norwich is now free all the time.

It can cost more to supply Internet access in certain places. I think BT Openzone is operated by the cloud which is a reseller of wireless access across Europe, though by no means do they cover the entire country (something to consider Freeola?).

It could be than in Dundee, Internet access to the hotel is not widely used, and to make it available and pay for itself, they need to charge more, whereas in the shopping centre, the cost to them is pennies when you consider how many people might use in when having a cup of coffee in one of the cafes, and probably acts as encouragement for people to come back.
