Would't it be great if console games had interactive game manuals. They could be in the game instead of in a tatty, remote book which is hard to get to grips with if you had never experienced the game itself. My idea is that it would be the first thing that appears when you play the game for the first time. It would only come up on the first time automatically and then you have to go it in the game if you are still experiancing problems.

It would start off with what the game is about and an introduction on the background of the game, likein Resident Evil, it would show the background of each character and the situation that you find yourself in. There would then be the controls of the game and how to play it with pictures of in game action explaining each move as it goes along. This will also include any tricks that can be performed and examples of each one. There would then be an explanation of all the things that are included in the game. This would involve the game modes, how to get around the menus and what buttons do which when selecting your choices.

Next would show how many levels there are in the game, what you can achieve and the secret things that you can unlock as the game progresses so you know what you are heading for. It would also give a full detail of what the main mode of the game is like and what you have to do in it and your targets.

The final scenes of the interactive manual would be a help guide if you ever experience any technical diffulculties and what to do in these situations. This would include some useful contacts and telephone numbers that you can use if you are in need. There would then be extras on the interactive manual like a background on the producers of the game and the birth of the game like the first ideas and its progression through design. It would be an indeph guide to how the ame got from someones imagination to your computer. Then it would switch to the game and get started. If you still had any problems then you could refer to it on the main menu.

I think that this would be a good idea because it is another step towards technological advance and it could be of benfit to people of all ages. A 9year old may find it easier to refer to than a book that he may not be able to read. It could be another step towards the perfect game.

Isnt that just called a tutorial?

I always try to read my manuals but they get way to deep, esp for the likes of civ and other RTS's. I think console games should just improve the manuals to make them more interesting.

A lot of PC games already do...

Especially the more complex...

I think they are probably left out of Console titles because of the lack of keys, and space...

Though, I'm sure it could be reached via the pause game screen?

Though it does seem that, classically, console games provide only limited game options/customisations...

Often not even enabling players to turn off in game music, and just have sound effects?
