Enter for something different and a break from the usual pap that goes about.

First of all may I say that the majority of add on’s never cease to amaze me not because they are revolutionary or great assets but because they are completely useless and I don’t see how anyone would find them useful, add on’s in general are useless!

No not those great updates we get for our favourite PC games giving them a boost of life and squeezing out more enjoyment for us to bask in, I’m talking about those big bulky type things they call battery packs that we stick on the back of our Game Boy’s.

Why are these add on’s official or none official so useless at their job?

Ever brought a Game Boy Light and Magnifier in one? Got home only to realise how useless it really is, the screen goes all hazy and sores your eyes where the light just puts an annoying glow on the middle of the screen, it’s hard enough to see already never mind with the extra handicap. So my question is this, Why do companies continue to make useless accessories for our handheld friends? I mean someone must buy them otherwise they wouldn’t have the money to produce more of these bulky items.

Now though they’re coming to our beloved Next Generation machines! Granted most wont make it over but those crazy Japanese just don’t stop do they, throwing out new useless add-ons like there’s no tomorrow.

Just take a look at this, go on…

Now what does that look like? A portable toilet maybe? Put it this way it looks anything but the stereotypical kiddish, bundle of joy view we usually get from Nintendo. Now think about it, would you buy that? It can’t be useful where could you use it, there must be very few people anywhere that would find that useful, don’t Nintendo have the Game Boy Advance for our portable needs, outdoing themselves it would seem to me.

And this for the latest in handheld entertainment….

Kind of defies the portable aspect of the system no? I can’t see this being on anyone’s Christmas list either.

So what I’m proposing what would be the ultimate add on, something useful perhaps? Now I’m not talking a Game Boy Advance with long range torch and addable Radio, oh no, I’m talking something that will be useful and increase the enjoyment we get out of our games. How about an accessory that allows us to link our GBA to the internet and download game demos or new levels and so on, something that will be worth our well earned money.

Add on’s in general are just a cheap way for companies to get some extra pennies in their pockets, I mean the Game Boy Colour battery pack for instance was perfectly fine but why oh why wouldn’t it fit onto the Game Boy Advance, because Nintendo want to line their already jam packed wallets with even more cash, at least Sony have got it right with the PS2 and it’s backwards capabilities to play PS games and have the same port so PS pads can be used with the system.

How useful would you say current accessories are, not the just ones for portable machines but what about our PS2’s and N64’s, third party controllers and DVD remotes aren’t cutting it no more are they, I can only name a few accessories that would be of any use to anyone but there are hundreds about so who buys these things?

Your thoughts on accessories?
Are they as good as they should/could be?

Thanks for reading
Andy
